PRINTABLE TANGRAMS ✨ Okay, have you ever set something out for your kids not knowing if they’d love it or not be interested at all?

That was 100% this little tangram invitation I set out for Sam to discover this morning... Grae was going to be using tans to explore quadrilaterals, so I figured I’d set some out for Sam to explore too, not knowing if he’d be at all into them.

I just popped online, found a big printable tangram template on @layerslearning and some little printable challenge cards by @kerihouchin, and printed the tangram on card stock and the challenge cards on regular paper, then set them out for him to discover.

Truth be told, he wasn’t that interested at first... I quite quickly figured out that he was feeling overwhelmed with colouring his tans, so I brought out our big block crayons, offered to help, and we were off!

I cut the tans apart and he went straight to building and oh my goodness... The excitement (swipe to see 🤩😂🙌)!!

I had no idea how much he’d enjoy it! I had set out just 4 of the 8 challenge cards and he completed those, asked for the second batch, and then asked if I could find him MORE challenge cards. 🙌

If you’re new to the concept, a tangram is essentially a 2-dimensional puzzle consisting 7 flat polygons called tans. The puzzle was invented in China 200+ years ago and when played with, is excellent for developing problem solving skills, spatial awareness, and an understanding of spatial relationships and geometric shapes.

One thing I find super helpful if working with card stock or paper tans is putting a non-slip grip down on your work surface first. It gives the surface just a little bit of hold and makes creating with tans much easier for kids. ❤️
