✨Reimagining Khayelitsha✨

We’re proud to spotlight the incredible women in our community; visionaries whose work continues to inspire and push boundaries. We’re kicking off with the the Golden Mention winners of the Now-Now competition.

Designed by Kerishne Smith and Khumo Moshe, this proposal reimagines Khayelitsha’s Spine Road and Lookout Hill as inclusive, people-centred spaces. It introduces market stalls for informal vendors, placemaking through soft landscaping and public art, and accessible transport links.

At Lookout Hill, new community-run sports facilities and gathering spaces promote youth engagement and local ownership; celebrating the everyday life, energy, and creativity of the Khayelitsha community.

Reimagining Khayelitsha

For the opportunity to “Reimagine Khayelitsha” alongside @arch__ks & @kmo_mo on their proposal. To walk with & support their process, thoughts, insights and pivots has been a pleasure.

We’d like to thank you for allowing us to sponsor you. To observe, to learn, to reflect along our mission towards the on-going refinement of interdisciplinary collaboration in a competition format.

To @thenownowcompetition for a great competition and a special thank you to those who joined us to provide valuable insights that enriched their entry Khalied Jacobs & @gabspather from @jakupa_architects & @bongazamisa from the @social_justice_coalition_ Looking forward to the future!

We.Collab X NowNow “Future Khayelitsha”
Kherishne x Khumo
Sponsorship Announcement

In our moment of pause, we take the opportunity to celebrate our sponsorship of both @kerishne x @kmo_mo’s entry to the current @thenownowcompetition. We pause on our choice of the term “opportunity” as we’ve through the journey so far enjoyed more of a partnership of mutual exploration that continues to provide insights and learnings respectively as they engage in unpacking and approaching the competition in a way that reflects their emerging collective vision.

Kerishne - An architectural designer, art enthusiast, and master’s in Architecture student who is fond of art and creative design and is intrigued by the complexities that go behind the design thought process. From conceptualisation to reality. Enjoying the process of drawing with a pen on paper and capturing the elements that shape who we are.

Collaboration is key as it serves as a catalyst for creating incredible spaces.

Seeing that architecture is not only about the design, and technologies behind it but the maintenance of structures and how people interact with it.
