🔥VIBE CHECK🔥

@kristalstittle's KAYAK threads a tricky needle of widescreen popcorn movie and intimate, emotional character study.

How?
✅Don't make a f&%king sound.
✅Forced to come of age in a hostile wilderness
✅So, the apocalypse happened. Well, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
✅...there are monsters under the ground and they're gonna f&%king eat you, duh.

If you haven't checked out this modern alien invasion/survival horror epic yet...well, grab an oar and get paddling.

Let’s talk about it: 🌊 KAYAK REVIEW 🌊

Kayak by @kristalstittle is an ode to survival and facing one’s demons, both within and on the exterior. Here’s a little snippet of my official review:

“Stittle doesn’t just explore physical survival. She casts a lens upon what it means to survive your own mistakes. At its heart, Kayak is about absolution. Keith’s isolation is both circumstantial and perhaps, subconsciously, a bit self imposed, and his journey becomes one of learning what redemption looks like for him.”

You can find it in its entirety on Goodreads (🔗 is in my bio) thank you so much @tenebrouspress for sending me an ARC! This one is out TODAY so make sure you pick it up. ALL HAIL TENEBROUS CULT!!

WEEKLY REPORT
🗓️
i love seeing @fashionably.bookish post her weekly reports and share about her life, so i wanted to try one of my own! my weeks tend to be fairly routine, based on my work schedule, but i’m trying to do more things in 2026 that bring me joy, and it’s off to a good start so far:)

(p.s.— i used a photo of my own handwriting to make the first slide, which was a fun new twist to my instagram post edits; i love how it turned out!)

R—reading: Kayak by Kristal Stittle (out 2/17/26); the latest title from my fave indie horror press, this book really surprised me with how touching i found its protagonist’s inner monologue. 18-year-old keith is alone on a kayak, desperate to stay alive and avoid the alien creatures that now dominate the land. i adore the artwork, the non-linear storytelling, and the tension between keith and the (super)natural world!

E—eating: a bunch of chocolate peppermint candies that i found on sale after the holidays!

P—playing: animal crossing! i quickly got my island to 3-stars prior to the new update, and i’m having a great time decorating mini hotel rooms:) btw, my nails are #gifted Olive & June from the Hanukkah calendar!

O—obsessing: well i have OCD so i obsess over everything…. BUT currently i’m panicking about all the ARCs i need to read!

R—recommending: a Stickii Club sub! the sticker sheets on slide 2 are from the January Pop pack; it’s only $13/month, and lots of fantastic indie artists to support!

T—treating: self-care is one of my priorities for 2026, and for me that looks like having an organized space (shout-out to to-do lists) and giving myself time to feel my hard feelings. lots of long baths, quiet nights in, and cozy socks:)
🗓️
qotd: respond to one of the prompts above; what are you doing this week? tan newspaper background with cutout letters on purple graph paper that reads “weekly report” and a tan paper strip with cursive handwriting: “january 20th, 2026”

“Everything will change,” I warned.

“Everything’s already changed,” she assured. “We’ve been through hell and back and adjusted every time. We got through it—together, and we’ll get through this too.” Her eyes ticked in mine. “You fought for me, Baker. Now it’s my turn to fight for you.”

How incredible is this piece?! @kerissonlp did such an amazing job 🥹 I can’t wait to show you guys the new covers he created. They’re amazing!!

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas from Hadley, Nick and the rest of the Snowcrossed family 🎄
