An amazing workshop with an incredible NGO right in the heart of the township, teaching urban arts, dance, DJing, music production, and social integration through music. How can I even begin to describe how deeply it touched me?! An encounter with Indian classical music, a bit of sociology, sound, and above all, emotion. I promised myself I’d come back to see them! @bridgesformusic @womadsouthafrica , @sukanyasounds , @earthsync_indiearth , @le_cnm @region_reunion @kerryfriedmann @chateaumorange_lareunion #captownsouthafrica #TownshipInnovation #artismundirecords #electroworldmusic #MusicForHope @moussangoni

In the ever-growing evolution of Hey! Mamela, this was the first full version of the act. Back then it was still called Bluum’n’Sky a project built around two local artists and friends exploring that natural groove between electronic music and live playing with homegrown instruments. Playing to some of our favourite tracks and producers to eventually start producing our own. The act was rooted in the dynamic energy of @sky_dladla , fronting the grooves with raw instrumentation and ancestral chants, while @marndebluum carved out the beats underneath. @bonganisotshononda soon joined the journey, expanding the sound with his melodic marimbas, and still jumps in whenever he’s around to jam. Every musician who steps in adds something of their own a texture, a moment, a spark. They leave a little piece of themselves behind, a stamp on the next chapter of the project, shaping the beautiful, organic growth of the band. 📸 by @stevie_small_steps
