Getting back to basics in every way. Took a walk with @keshcoulson and paid attention to light and the angles it fell on us. One location always provides more than one style of photo.

Use code WINTER to save 30% on my courses until Monday. Link in bio :)

It’s funny, even analysing the light in real time - the photos still turned out a little different to what I was thinking. The cloud diffusing the sun made things flatter and more muted than I was hoping but still a couple of shots in here I really like. Shot with my Canon R5 (what I personally think is the most boring camera I own) paired with the EF35mm f/1.4 (which is a very old and very stunning lens).

I’ve got an end of winter sale running for anyone looking for one of my courses. Use the code WINTER and save 30%. Link in bio 📱Code expires Aug 31st.

Just out for a walk with Kesh looking at where the light is.

I’ve started bringing my camera with me more often when we leave the house. When I was first getting into photography, I’d never leave the house without my camera and I miss that.

It still feels pretty wild that we made this happen but I’m really glad we did. For Kesh, for the kids, for me, for the experience, for life. #queenstown #newzealand #movingoverseas

The older I get, the more aware of become of the things I like to do and also the things I don’t like to do.

I’ve mentioned on here recently that taking photos professionally for 16 years has made it a tricky thing to maintain passion and joy in the art of taking photos.

But one thing I’ve loved from the beginning and until this very moment is this - exploring a new (snowy) place, shooting film with the family. For me, it’s that simple. Give me a roll of film, a camera that shoots it, Kesh and the kids and some place new and inspiring.

That stuff just lights me up inside.

Even after all these years, I don’t know if there’s a feeling that matches getting your film scans back. I’m still sitting on so many images from Japan but here are a few more of my favourites.

There’s nothing like shooting film in a place that inspires and Hokkaido during winter did exactly that. I was offline while we travelled - my first time since Instagram was downloaded on my phone more than a decade ago that I took a complete break. Highly recommend.

I also highly recommend shooting 100% film for a week or two. Really changes your approach where each frame becomes valuable, rather than something that doesn’t really require too much consideration which happens so often with digital.

Do you have a favourite photo in here?

No one, no place, no time, no thing but you. Always you. Always forever. I knew you before this. I know you through this. I’ll know you after this. My heart will always find your heart. My love will always find your love.

A few portraits and words for @keshcoulson. I’m fairly certain this is #kodakportra400 shot on my #canoneos3 with the #canon35mmf14i which is an incredible setup for anyone wanting to get into film but particularly those who shoot Canon as all EF lenses will work with this camera.

Got to go and visit these two up north recently. I’m always amazed at how much life throws at them and how they always navigate the highs and lows together as a pair.

We always have the deepest of conversations, always bypass the vagueness and surface level. Straight to the heart, the core and what makes us human.

Very much reminded me why I love being human, the cravings for connection, the hunger to experience all there is in life and with others we love the desire to keep moving forward, keep growing and expanding.

That’s where all the best stories lie, and these guys have some incredible stories now and even more incredible stories to tell in the future.

Huge pleasure and privilege, getting asked to come up north and show a glimpse of a rare sight of just these two a few years back. I love their love and can’t wait to see what’s ahead for them and what stories they’ll tell in time about their highs and lows and everything in between.

Just in case you were wondering what it looks like when Kesh makes a coffee in the morning. ☕️ Extra points for anyone who can tell us how to use our coffee maker on an induction cooktop.

Shot with the Sony a7iii and Sigma 35mm F/1.4

Edited with my own preset.

I spent the beginning of February trying to find a new project but it turns out taking photos of @keshcoulson waking up feels more right than anything else I tried 🤷🏽

I hope you enjoy these because I think I’ll keep this series going.
