🧑‍🌾 👨‍🍳 DE GROOTSTE VERRASSING VAN DEZE ZOMER ?

Beste broodliefhebber,

Tijdens onze graanexpeditie naar Australië in 2023 bezochten we Stephen en Tania van Burrum Biodynamics, ‘kleine’ graanboeren in het zuidelijke Victoria met 950 ha. Als wildvreemden klopten we toen aan en werden warm ontvangen in hun farm waar we wel 4 dagen verbleven. Wat een ervaring, zo aan het andere eind van de wereld, te worden ondergedompeld in de mooie biodynamische filosofie van deze twee bezielde mensen.

Afgelopen zomer hebben onze tegenvoetse graanbroeders een bezoek gebracht aan Europa en waren ze ook enkele dagen te gast in onze bakkerij. Wat een ongelofelijke belevenis: samen kennis uitwisselen in onze graanopslag, maalderij en bakkerij. Onze graanbibliotheek met wel 250 oude rassen heeft het meeste indruk gemaakt op Stephen: ‘I could stay here all day… ‘ Deze ontmoeting heeft iets met ons gedaan, we zijn zo dankbaar voor zoveel moois. Onze hartsnaar trilt nog steeds na!

Het leven kan verrassend zijn als je het de kans geeft! Geniet mee van de mooie beelden.

We need to talk about this. It’s so important for businesses like ours.

At Ket Baker, we’ve never added a card surcharge. We’ve always absorbed those fees, so nothing changes for you at our checkout.

But “no surcharge” doesn’t mean there’s no cost. We still pay to accept card payments, and so far, our processing fees haven’t changed.

That’s what frustrates me. We’re hearing about savings for businesses, but I want to know when we’ll actually see them.

These costs matter. They add up across every coffee, every croissant and every loaf we sell.

I wanted to share what this looks like for Ket Baker, because there’s more to this conversation than the headline.

🐾 Pearl & Snow Update

A big milestone for Pearl and Snow!

After months of gradual introductions, controlled exposure and building calm behaviour around the livestock, they have now fully settled into life alongside the goats and chickens.

They’re now able to spend time in the shared area with the goats and confident chickens, with their interactions becoming a normal part of everyday life.

There are still moments of excitement when the chickens get particularly chaotic or start flapping, so we’ll continue working on calm exposure and allowing everyone to become increasingly comfortable around each other.

Next up is Phase 5 – Expanding Territory Awareness 🌿

We’ve started taking Pearl and Snow further around the property, including towards the dam, where they’re learning to calmly observe the ducks and other free-ranging animals.

The goal continues to be simple:

Notice the animals → remain calm → carry on with life.

Really nice progress from these two. 🐕🐕🐐🐓
