Meet the New Generation Quietly Changing the Eyewear Industry

Written by Pino R. / Edited by Maya M.

Four designers. Four distinct points of view. All in their mid-thirties. One unmistakable shift in the way eyewear is designed, presented and understood.

Eyewear is becoming more than eyewear.

The change is subtle enough to escape the usual metrics. You may not see it in quarterly sales reports, trade-show booths or account numbers. Look closer, though, and the signs are everywhere: in the cases, the campaigns, the typography and the increasingly selective way stores curate their boards. Most of all, you can hear it in the way certain brands have begun to speak.

We may be witnessing the beginning of a genuine shift.

Craftsmanship is no longer enough

For a long time, eyewear became very good at making eyewear.

Beautiful acetate. Japanese titanium. Hand-finishing. Heritage factories. The industry learned the vocabulary and repeated it until craftsmanship itself became marketing.

But exceptional construction is no longer enough to build an exceptional brand. The most interesting names in eyewear already understand this. They are developing a design language that extends far beyond the frame.

The case matters. The packaging matters. The photography, the typography and the person wearing the frame all matter. Even the words a brand uses to describe itself matter.

These things may sound superficial, but together they represent something much deeper: world-building.

The strongest brands are no longer asking only, “How do we make a better frame?” They are asking, “What does our world look like?”

So, who is building it?

Sato Eyewear Is Playing the Long Game — Quietly, Precisely, and at a Price @sato.eyewear

Founded in 2022 by Kevin Godart-Elbaz @kevelbaz the owner of Marbeuf Optique @mboptique , alongside businessman Jérémie Gamon @jergamon, whose résumé includes time at Edmond de Rothschild, the brand sits at the intersection of retail instinct and financial discipline. It’s a familiar formula, creative meets corporate, but in Sato’s case, the execution is unusually controlled.

The result is not disruption. It’s calibration.

In just over three years, the label has secured placement in more than 250 stores globally, a pace that signals both retailer appetite and a well-executed rollout strategy. Buyers, faced with reduced access to legacy ultra-luxury brands, are actively seeking alternatives that deliver comparable margins without the same allocation constraints.

Sato delivers exactly that.

Critics would argue that the next decade will belong to brands that truly understand social media, not just as a channel, but as a core driver of perception, built through high-impact campaigns. Many labels still fail to grasp that today’s equation is split evenly: 50 percent social media, 50 percent product. Sato is among the few that seem to understand this balance with clarity.

If brands want to reach a new audience and capture a younger consumer, they need to take cues from Sato, moving decisively into social media and understanding that today, product begins with marketing. Top-tier content and visibility are no longer optional; they are the entry point.
