opening the most magical book in the most magical place ✨

When I was lucky enough to receive the proof of The Neverland Thieves, I knew I wanted to take it to the closest place I could think of to Neverland… 🧚🏻‍♀️

But of course, once I saw that cover, I KNEW I wouldn’t be able to put it down. What better place to read a book about magic than around Magic Kingdom? 🏰

And what makes this story even more special is its connection to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity @greatormondst 💙

In 1929, J. M. Barrie gifted the rights to Peter Pan to Great Ormond Street Hospital, creating a truly magical legacy that continues to this day. The Neverland Thieves is part of that legacy, with a contribution from every UK print copy sold going to support the charity and the incredible work they do for seriously ill children and their families.

Katie @kwebberwanders and Kevin @kevgtsang have created something truly magical with this story, and have already touched so many little hearts with this new story. Thank you for sending me the proof and letting me relive the magic 💫

🍯100 years of Winnie-the-Pooh🧸

We celebrated the 100th anniversary of a very beloved, silly old bear with @royalliteraryfund at @britishlibrary and it was joyful! There was singing, speeches, and even a performance of the Eeyore birthday party chapter with
Alan Titchmarsh reading for Eeyore and @cressidacowellauthor as Winnie-the-Pooh!

💛 A.A. Milne bequeathed part of his estate to the @royalliteraryfund which helps them support writers — @cerrie.burnell spoke about the impact the RLF has had on writers since 1790 — including Bram Stoker, Doris Lessing and more.

It was wonderful celebrating an organisation that does so much for writers — and of course Winnie-the-Pooh and his pals. Happy Birthday, Winnie-the-Pooh and many happy returns 🍯

🍁 Autumn literary festival roundup 🍁

We had an amazing time at @bathkidslitfest and @cheltfestivals over the past two weekends!

✒️We did some signing around Bath at @mrbsemporium and @toppingsbath plus left signed stock with @waterstonesbath — and managed to fit in some slow wandering around Bath (I am still on a crutch, so the cobblestones made moving swiftly tricky!)

🐉We loved meeting Dragon Realm fans in Cheltenham at our Neverland Thieves event and introducing them to our latest adventure ( while promising the final dragon book is coming soon😅) and signed lots of copies for @cheltenham_waterstones — and enjoyed the countryside views on the journey back to London.

I am always grateful to be invited to literary festivals — they are so inspiring and joyful and give so much to the community. Thank you to the teams behind the scenes who do so much work to make these festivals a reality and for looking after the authors and attendees 💛

Who doesn’t love a book stack? 📚❤️ This was the little stack from some of the authors we saw at Cheltenham Literature Festival this weekend. We are incredibly privileged to be able to buy tickets and meet authors in person, hearing all about their writing process and how they get their ideas is truly inspiring. My girls love to write and always come away with heads full of ideas. They choose who they go to see and I truly wish every child had the same access as there’s nothing like a first-hand experience with authors/illustrators. Schools/teachers, if you don’t have the budget then please try other ways of funding school events so that more children have the opportunity to experience something like the events at book festivals. Maybe get your PTA to help fund author/illustrator visits if they can? Speak to your local indie bookstore about the possibility of linking up with local children’s authors! Go to the local library and link up. Ask a local business to support you. There are so many ways to fund author/illustrator visits! Huge thank you to the authors and illustrators we met at Cheltenham Literature Festival this year, who were all very generous with their time.

A belated Bookshop Day post appreciating one of our favourite independent bookshops — @mrbsemporium in Bath! Always feels like a little bit magical stepping inside this very special bookshop💙 And a must visit if you are in Bath!

And! They currently have signed copies of THE NEVERLAND THIEVES, plus some DRAGON REALM, SAM WU, and SPACE BLASTERS too💛

A delight to be part of @highclere_castle’s first literary festival! Thank you Lady Carnarvon for hosting the festival at her home and inviting us. In addition to our NEVERLAND THIEVES event, I had the joy of interviewing @bonhughbon all about his latest children’s book — we discussed his childhood inspiration as well as the similarities between Downton Abbey and Paddington (more than you would think!)

Our first visit to beautiful Highclere Castle but definitely not our last 💛

🏥✨The Neverland Thieves🏴‍☠️🧚‍♂️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟

🌟 all ages

This book originally appealed to me from its front cover alone (great job Kristina Kister!) but once I realised that profits from the sale of this book are used to support Great Ormond Street Hospital, it became even more magical!

This book follows on the magic of Peter Pan’s Neverland, with its mermaids, pirates and Lost Boys (and Girls!) and feels just as whimsical. However, this time, it’s Tom - a patient at GOSH - who finds himself needing Neverland. Led by the trust chapel statues, Tom sets off on a magical adventure to solve the mystery of the Neverland Thief and save his friends from danger.

I absolutely loved the innocent, fun and fast-paced adventure in this book, which feels wonderfully classic even when paired with modern-day London. The rivalry between the mermaids, pirates and Lost Children made me chuckle throughout and brings a lovely element of fun to an otherwise action-packed tale!

Things I loved:
✨ Magical Neverland adventure
🧜‍♀️ Mermaids, pirates and Lost Children
😂 Brilliant rivalry and humour
🏥 Meaningful GOSH connection
💙 Builds empathy and understanding
📖 Perfect growing-reader adventure

I also loved Tom’s story. While he is living at GOSH and receiving treatment, beneath the surface of his wild adventure is his struggle with accepting how much his life has changed since his diagnosis. His journey explores anger, acceptance and pride in everything he has overcome, offering a lovely opportunity for children to develop empathy and understanding of lives and experiences beyond their own.

This book would make a magical bedtime read for LKS2 children, or any growing reader (and above!) who loves classic magical adventures. The BeeKeeper is a little creepy, but other than that, there’s nothing to be afraid of! I’ll definitely be recommending this one to my class.
