The Greenbrier in West Virginia has always been on my bucket list of fabulous hotels. Kevin and I just had the privilege this weekend to celebrate our Aunt and Uncle, Ellen Michelson-Giarla and Mike Giarla’s 40th wedding anniversary. One of my style icons, Dorothy Draper, was turned loose after World War II, to style this glorious 100+ year old hotel into the beauty she is today. She was was an American interior decorator. Stylistically very anti-minimalist, she would use bright, exuberant colors and large prints that would encompass whole walls. She incorporated black and white tiles, rococo scrollwork, and baroque plasterwork, design elements now considered definitive of the Hollywood Regency style of interior decoration. I highly recommend a little get away to this marvelous hidden jewel.
