This didn’t come from a studio.
It came from grit, grief, and a story I couldn’t stop telling.

BAD B*TCH was born in the chaos. No guarantees, just heart.
Directing this film meant ripping open everything I thought I knew about loss, power, and who we become when survival is the only option.

📰 Huge thanks to Pop Culturalist for the raw, in-depth feature on the journey.

It was such an honor to speak with Pop Culturalist. Their questions were insightful, challenging, and deeply illuminating. They’re a must-follow in the film world, not only for their A-class content but also for their film-related giveaways and interviews that spotlight bold, visionary creators.
In our conversation, I got to share my storytelling journey — from the stories my mom made up for me as a kid, to reading the classics, to the filmmakers who continue to inspire me like Spielberg, Akira Kurosawa, Barry Jenkins, and Jamie Foxx. I also spoke about the heartbeat behind every frame: my family and my production team.
I didn’t have a studio. I didn’t have a safety net.
Just a vision that wouldn’t leave me alone and the courage to chase it.
BAD B*TCH isn’t just a film. It’s so much of what I’ve felt in my own life about grief, survival, identity, and power. I put every part of myself into it.
Pop Culturalist just published the inside story —raw, honest, and real. If you’ve ever wanted to make something that scares, you… this interview is for you.

That’s a wrap on SXSW! This is the most prepared I’ve ever been for a festival, arranging tickets ahead of time for every movie I saw. I managed to see 40 movies (and a few TV projects) screening at the festival all told plus do 5 interviews before the fest. I loved being in Austin again and getting to connect with a bunch of new and old friends and colleagues. I didn’t get a photo with everyone, but here are some highlights!

I really liked so much of what I saw, and here’s my top ten:

1. Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie
2. The Rivals of Amziah King
3. Brother Verses Brother
4. Redux Redux
5. For Worse
6. The Threesome
7. Forge
8. American Sweatshop
9. Fantasy Life
10. The Baltimorons

I’ll be sharing all my reviews and interviews over the next few days and then diving fully back into TV as we head straight into Emmy season! Follow @movieswithabe and @awardsbuzz to make sure you don’t miss anything!
