She said no. Not to the idea, to the timing.

So James Andrews did something different: he partnered with an AI cofounder.

An assistant waits for instructions. An employee does the job you give them. A cofounder carries the business with you.

Over the next 16 weeks, James is building the next stage of his business in public, with Avery by his side. Swipe for the story, and find his full write-up on Substack. Link in highlights.

In 1994 James Andrews was at Columbia Records working with artists like Nas and The Fugees. Then in 1998 he went to Ecko to run marketing also working with rappers + DJs and athletes in their campaigns. Different industries on paper, same cultural family tree.

This is also the point the garmentos are investing in “streetwear” hence someone like James learning their language and MAGIC creating a section away from the traditional Menswear.

Hip Hop was and is the connective tissue. The real innovation wasn’t any single lane, it was what happened when we brought it all together.

This isn’t nostalgia. This is the history, the evolution and the stories directly from the people behind Hip Hop in the 90s. This is: Hip Hop is a Fad.

Last night reminded me that some of the best opportunities in life can’t be planned.

I was fully expecting to have dinner by myself.

I invited one friend. He couldn’t make it.

My friend James invited me to ecstatic dance at the Yoga Barn, but it looked like it was sold out.

So James and I decided to grab dinner instead.

He picked a restaurant.

I said, “Perfect, see you there.”

A few minutes later he texted:

“Actually… I really want to go to Sayuri as it’s vegas. and Friday nights there have a great vibe.”

I laughed and replied, “I’ll take one for the team.”

An hour later…

I was sitting across the table having dinner with Russell Simmons.

We talked health, wellness, longevity, bio hacking , yoga , intermittent fasting, Bali , wellness resorts and people we knew in common and if he had mentors who game him advice to build a hip hop dynasty.

I really enjoyed the insights.

Russell been doing yoga for 30 years, been vegan for a very long time and his resort is vegan and his @thebalieden has been in Bali for 10 years.

My friend James goes way back with Russell and his girlfriend @vonettaetaylor

The best way to meet and connect w people of influence is to have friends who have high trust relationships w those people.

Here’s what struck me:

I wasn’t trying to meet anyone.

I wasn’t working the room.

I wasn’t networking.

I was simply being friendly & being curious.

I Met @rebeccaaier a fellow New Yorker who went to Harvard and stanford who runs a cool startup for influencers.

One small change in plans completely changed the evening.

It’s a reminder that the best opportunities often don’t come from chasing influential people.

They come from investing in genuine relationships, saying yes to interesting conversations, and being flexible enough to let life surprise you.

I’ve found that the more I put myself in places where curious, kind, growth-minded people gather, the “luckier” I seem to get.

Maybe luck isn’t luck after all.

Maybe it’s the compound interest of relationships.

What’s one unexpected opportunity that happened because you simply said “yes” to a different plan?

One of the biggest gifts from speaking in Bali wasn’t giving the talk…

It was who I met afterward.

I sat next to James Andrews at dinner, and within minutes we realized we had dozens of mutual friends across AI, venture capital, Summit, and the music industry.

What impressed me wasn’t his résumé.

It was his curiosity, humility, and character.

Those are the people worth investing in.

One of the biggest gifts from speaking in Bali…

wasn’t giving the talk.

It was who I met afterward.

At dinner, I ended up sitting next to James Andrews.

Within minutes we realized we had dozens of mutual friends—from the AI world, venture capital, Summit, high-tech circles in Atlanta, and even the music industry through Scooter Braun.

James has helped scale companies, invested in entrepreneurs, and is one of those people who seems to know everyone worth knowing.

But that wasn’t what impressed me most.

We were both curios to learn about each other stories and journeys.

Loved his humility.

His willingness to keep learning and his ability to know where the future is going.

The older I get, the more I realize that some of the best relationships begin with a simple conversation and a genuine curiosity about another person.

Check out his new book Day One-React or Create

Looking forward to many more conversations and adventures ahead.

Here’s to new friendships.

One thing that’s become crystal clear to me…

The future isn’t just AI.

It’s community.

Today I spent the day at Bali Eden.

Yoga.
Cryotherapy.
Body composition testing.
Health assessments.
Great conversations.

What impressed me most wasn’t any one modality.

It was seeing people come together around health, wellness, and genuine human connection.

One takeaway from today’s yoga class really stuck with me:

Presence is a choice.

Every moment we can choose distraction…
or we can choose to be fully present.

That lesson applies just as much to business and relationships as it does to yoga.

Huge kudos to Russell Simmons and the entire Bali Eden team for creating a space where people can invest in both their health and their community.

A special thank you to Meg, whose class was thoughtful, grounded, and exactly what I needed.

I’ll definitely be back.

I have a feeling experiences that combine wellness, learning, and authentic connection aren’t a fad…

They’re where the world is headed.

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift - that is why it is called the present..."

Self-Awareness is the beginning of healing, growth, optimization, and elevation.

Personally and Professionally.

Self-Awareness starts with being honest with the present.

This brings Clarity.

With Clarity comes regulation, management, and control.

With Control comes Command.

You can then Command the Future self, business, & legacy that you wish to create.

Be Present.

Let's create.

Ensure Legacy. Fortify Wealth. Engineer Freedom.(TM)
