9 years ago at @wichitariverfest I had the amazing opportunity to sing the song "Glory" with Common to close out his set!

This summer Common is headlining the Juneteenth weekend in Kansas City and I'll be in town touring that week. I wonder if we can have a reunion performance....

@common you think we can make that happen?

MY GOD IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big vision. Real energy. And the whole community showed up for it.

This morning at the Mutual Musicians Foundation, James McGee, Sr.; head of the 18th & Vine District World Cup Activation Committee led the conversation on what’s ahead for 18th & Vine as the District prepares to welcome the world. Alongside remarks from Dennis Powell of the Do Good Foundation, attendees got a first look at the new soccer table activation by SŌKCITY and Vine Street Fútbol Club, with live demos from District patrons.

About 25 of these activations are coming exclusively to 18th & Vine, adding to the experience as Kansas City steps onto a global stage this summer.

McGee also made it clear. The District is open. Businesses are open now, during construction, during the tournament, and long after. The invitation is simple, come experience 18th & Vine before, during, and after.

District stakeholders, members of the World Cup Activation Committee, and community members were all in the room, showing up in support and ready to answer questions as this next chapter takes shape.

Everything you need to know lives at 18thandvinelives.com.

Common is coming to 18th & Vine, and the energy is already building.

The JuneteenthKC Heritage Festival is bringing a full day of music, culture, and community to the district, and this MainStage moment is set to be one of the highlights of the summer. A historic artist, a historic space, and a crowd that knows how to show up.

Saturday, June 20. Free. Family-friendly. Lawn chairs encouraged.

Pull up early, stay all day, and be part of something that feels bigger than a concert. For full details, visit juneteenthkc.com.

Miss JuneteenthKC training is officially underway.

The contestants have started their workshops as they prepare for the Miss JuneteenthKC Pageant. Over the coming weeks, these young ladies will build confidence, gain leadership skills, stage presence, creativity, and a deeper connection to the meaning and legacy of Juneteenth. Lives here relaying word from Councilwoman Robinson’s office: today’s 18th & Vine Communications Meeting has been cancelled.

We know that’s not ideal—especially as there are several pressing district matters already in motion. Here’s what’s happening behind the scenes:

* Parking after hours and loitering have become flashpoints. The “No Parking” rules were added to address these issues, and they’re working closely with security, Public Works, and property owners to find solutions that protect access and safety.

* Some street closures and safety barriers around construction zones haven’t been deployed correctly. They’re coordinating with Public Works to make sure those are placed consistently and clearly for everyone’s benefit.

* While today’s meeting is off, work continues on maintenance, access, and the day-to-day operations that keep this district functioning.

Our Councilwoman’s office will reach out as soon as the meeting is rescheduled and will share progress of the development progress and our concerns.

In the meantime, your feedback and questions are welcome. We want to keep communication strong, even when plans change.
