Two days. Four chapters. Students from Beijing public schools, international schools across China, and a delegation from Cambodia, in one building.

@keystoneacademybeijing Keystone Academy Beijing gave their Festival of Hope a shape: Empathizing, Discovering, Belonging, Acting.

- Empathizing: understand the human stories behind global issues.
- Discovering: analyse root causes and find where you can have an impact.
- Belonging: join a global community of young changemakers.
- Acting: turn ideas into real-world outcomes.

In practice that meant a student ensemble opening the festival on cello, violin, erhu and guzheng. Chalk drawings across the courtyard. A signature wall in the lobby that filled up as the weekend went on. Delegations who arrived as strangers working out what they could build together.

One student, on why any of it matters: “It can make this world a better place.”

Thank you to Keystone Academy Beijing for hosting, and to the students who built it.

Five cities. Two days. Six urgent questions.

At @keystoneacademybeijing in Beijing, young people from Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Ningbo, and Phnom Penh came together for a @iborganization Festival of Hope they designed and ran themselves.

Across two days they moved from empathy to action: hands-on workshops, a poverty simulation, keynote conversations, and six questions that matter close to home and around the world, from living well with our natural environment to health and wellbeing.

No one handed them a script. They named what they hope for, then took the first real steps toward it, together.

Think boldly. Inquire bravely. Act together.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this 2 week China author trip. So no cash or card, only QR codes on specific apps? And once there, comms was gonna be sketchy? Most ironically, I don’t speak the lingo, but everyone will expect me to. Ha, well here goes…

What a surprise then that everything went like magic. The people esp. schools, were the most welcoming you could ever meet. I was plied with gifts from the off, and even though my itinerary (plus jet lag) was bonkers, the vibe was cool.

In between sessions, I had free rein of the art dept (thanks @mrstewartart), browsed books, chatted with the kids, and squeezed in a geeky Maglev ride. Oh yeah, and I scoffed loads of real deal Chinese grub - bonus!

Outside school time, I was also invited to delicious dumpling suppers, discovered Beijing with @guruwalk and met Insta pal @holly.ann.golightly for the 1st time IRL.

Thank you to everyone who made my trip such an adventure💛
