I've seen and heard a number of Gospel artists blaming the church for their misfortune. It is quite unfortunate and a product of a shallow minded individual. If you decide to limit the expressions of your gifting to church folk alone, why should everyone else be held accountable for your loss but YOU? Truth be told, some churches may have become transformed into the image of lucrative businesses but even that doesn't give any Gospel artist the right to place certain unrealistic burdens on the church. A gospel artist once said, '..they pay foreign invited music Ministers huge sums of money to come and sing songs we already know but the same church doesn't place such monetary value on the indigenous artists!'. This thought process is a gradual but certain and sure path towards DERISION. There was a time when Gospel music ministers where focused solely on seeing the power of God at work in the lives of the congregation AND themselves, but today the gospel artist has not only secluded his or herself from the TRIANGLE but has misplaced priorities. If money and fame is what you truly desire, with men praising you all year long on posters, hand bills and large billboards then you may want to pack your bags, tear up your repertoire, change your lingua and get a job for which YOU HAVE THE CREDENTIALS worthy to demand a pay package on a monthly basis. It is sad, quite sad that it has come to this. I condemn no one but I demand that we rethink and realign our thought processes. If you desire to exchange your gifts solely for MONEY, then I dare say you're in the wrong place. It's time we discover the true essence and PURPOSE of these gifts we have so come to glorify. It's not about anybody in the congregation being 'SLAIN IN THE SPIRIT', neither is it about you being invited to minister on HUGE platforms. Has it ever occurred to us that God is probably absent at these EXALTED PLATFORMS? That the jamboree most times have absolutely nothing in sync with God's agenda? I dare say that God needs us more than we need money. There is a cancerous disease brewing amongst us and it is time to nip it in the bud before we practically start to work against the giver of our gifts.
