What is CCoLAB?
The Creative Change Laboratory (CCoLAB) traces its roots back to anti-apartheid art-making 📢 practices in South Africa 🇿🇦. Over several years these practices have been adapted to create safe art-making spaces for queer and trans youth 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈, and as a practice for using art for healing 🔮 and resistance 🪧. Those participating will join a series of art-making workshops. At these workshops, art will be used for collectively reflecting on experiences; developing responses to challenges; and curating artworks into an exhibition 🖼️🪇📸👾📹💃🏾🧜🏿‍♀️.

CCoLAB is aimed at Queer and Trans persons (including those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual or beyond) and as Black, Indigenous or People of Colour (including those who identify as Arab, Asian, or mixed ethnicity).

- What? A series of art-making workshops for QTBIPOC persons

- When? Between February - June 2025

- How many and how long? 18 sessions, one occurring each week, each session 3-4 hours long

- Do I need to be an artist to participate? No! Anyone interested in creative expression can join.

- Why? CCoLAB is offered as a space for healing and resistance, and an opportunity to amplify the voices and visions of QTBIPOC persons.

"The first #art for #activism workshop I facilitated was in Potchefstroom in October 2011. I was freshly trained by the @cdptrust at a workshop led by the amazing Judy Seidman and Charlotte Schaer. I was young and eager to jump in.

The workshop brought together a group of #queer and #trans #youth based at the University of #Potchefstroom. The majority of the participants were in the closet. I remember vividly the joy of creating queer community with/for young people. Making art and sharing stories became the basis of community building. I also remember the many stories of pain, fear and violence shared in the space. I was young too, and those stories of homophobia and transphobia sit with me still, a decade later.

I found these images from that first workshop as I prepare a new iteration of queer art-making, healing and activism" - @khangabriel

6. Beyond the streets exhibition at The SAATCHI Gallery. - (Had to blend in with the art)
7. One night with Academy Award winning Ariana Debose. (Angela Bassett did the things. Viola Davis my woman king!)
8. Black Superhero my fave theatre play of 2023 so far. (Fun fact. This is the second time I’m meeting Dyllón at the theatre. The first time was at the Lincoln centre when The Mandela musical invited us for a reading - see last frame. He told me at the time he’d love to come visit SA. Black Superhero is his first West End play.)

Inferno. One night I had a conversation with a friend. We spoke about love, lovers and fear. He told me he would write a play. One he wished to share with his closest friends. A play of sin and pain and the relentless ache of unrequited love. Today he gives voice to those who have been silenced. Tonight I wish to tribute his voice through #dante. #inspiredby @khangabriel #dantealighieri #dantesinferno #dante #inferno #newart #digitalpainting #digitalart #instaart #samelove #queervoices #lgbtqia #listeningtoevanescence

Eid Dinner featuring
- Tenderloin Beef Fillet with creamy mustard cheese sauce

- Gajar Halwa - tasted like an actual wedding 💁
- Homemade Cinnabon

So was so much more - Salads, Burfee, biscuits but these were definitely the highlights.
