على مدار ٤ أيام، اتنقلت الأفكار والأصوات والممارسات الإبداعية لأبعاد تانية؛ من ورشنا التفاعلية في دوار للفنون لفعالياتنا الخاصة في الفاكتوري، خرجت السينما من الشاشة لمساحات الحوار، والتأمل الجماعي، والتجريب المفتوح.

🎥 Not everything we experienced during our 10th edition unfolded inside the screening rooms.

Across four days, ideas, voices, and creative practices moved beyond traditional borders— from hands-on workshops at Dawar Arts to special events at The Factory, taking cinema off the screen and into dialogue, collective reflection, and open experimentation.

To everyone who stepped into these spaces and animated them with us: thank you.

🪞 نظرة تانية بتورّينا اللي ما كنّاش شايفينه.

في تالت أيام المهرجان، كشفت الأماكن والصور والحكايات المألوفة عن طبقات جديدة؛ بين شوارع وسط البلد، والفاكتوري، وسينما زاوية، وقفنا نتأمل المدينة، والعملية الإبداعية، والحكايات اللي بنرويها عن نفسنا.

من الصورة والأرشيف، لكواليس الأفلام والمطبوعات المستقلة، فتح اليوم الباب للاقتراب من العمل الفني، وما وراء نسخته النهائية، بينما دعا نقاش مفتوح لإعادة التفكير في الرعاية والثقة والتعاون كجزء من الممارسة الإبداعية نفسها.

وعلى الشاشة، أخدتنا منصة رقم ٤ ورقم ٥ إلى الماضي، والعيلة، والحياة العامة، واللحظات الهادية اللي بتشكلنا. وبالتوازي، وسّعت أفلام من ٣ قارات أفق المشاهدة، قبل ما نختتم اليوم بفيلم من العلامات الفارقة في تاريخ الرعب البرازيلي، ونكتشف أصداء غير متوقعة بين تقاليد سينمائية مختلفة.

🪞 Looking again changes what we find.

On Day Three, familiar places, images, and stories revealed new layers. Across Downtown Cairo, The Factory, and Zawya, we paused to look more closely—at the city, the creative process, and the stories we tell about ourselves.

Photography, archives, behind-the-scenes materials, and independent publications invited us beyond the finished work, while a panel reframed care, trust, and collaboration as essential parts of artistic practice.

On screen, Manassa No. 4 and Manassa No. 5 explored the past, family, public life, and the quiet moments that shape us. Alongside them, films from across three continents expanded our view before we closed the day with a landmark work of Brazilian horror, discovering unexpected resonances across cinematic traditions.

Huge thanks to everyone who shared a different perspective, started a conversation, or found a new connection.

عارفة إن المسرحية كانت بالإنجليزي بس حسيت اني عايزة اكتب ده بالعربي. وآسفة ان مكفاش اعمل تاج لكل الناس.

"من صغري وصغر سني" شخصية عايشة على ول الافلام ومخلصة ليها مليون في المية مع إن المضحك إن أيام الجامعة الناس كلها كانت فاكراني بدرس مسرح علشان كل صحابي كانوا بتوع مسرح ودفعتي (تخصص سينما) كانت مكونة من ٨ اشخاص، ٣ منهم مبيحضروش (@sumayaalfie ). وأنا عمري ما صححتلهم المعلومة. اللي تشوفه.

فاست فوروارد ٢٠٢٦، واحدة من اقرب صحابي @faridaragab شجعتني اروح معاها أوديشين @acttheatregroup بعد ما كنت في منتهى الاستفزاز وأنا كل ٥ دقايق“يا بنتي أنا مبعملش مسرح”.
روحت. مكنتش نايمة يومها وضغطي وطي فجأة.
وخرجت وأنا متأكدة مليون في المية إني بوظت الدنيا تمامًا ومفكرتش في اليوم ده تاني.

وبعدين جالي callback على Charlene.

وحبيتها من أول جملة ليها. شخصية فوضاوية ودرامية وبتجري ورا الادرنالين ومقلقة…..بزيادة.

واعتقد أكتر حاجة التجربة دي فكرتني بيها هي إن المسرح في الآخر ناس. ناس موهوبة ومرهقة وفرفوشة موت وعايشة على الكافيين وقلة النوم والتوتر اللي قبل العرض ومع ذلك بيعرفوا يخلوا بعض يحسوا إنهم متشافين فعلًا.

وأنا كنت محظوظة بشكل مش طبيعي بالناس دي.

من قلبي بحب/حبيت كل بني آدم كان جزء من التجربة دي؛ كاست وكرو ♥️

How many people does it take to put together Manassat?

To start, there is the core team & the 10th edition seasonal crew: a mix of returning players & new faces all with different skills, backgrounds, & talents who all showed up to whole heartedly tackle every obstacle & pour their energy into Manassat. They did this through design, coordination, copywriting, marketing, & organizing. My admiration & appreciation towards them extends past festival dates.

Then there are those who dedicated time to reviewing submissions. It is a daunting responsibility; yet, our programmers, grant committee, & jury took on the challenge with enthusiasm, care, & pride. I am thankful for their questions, feedback, & engagement.

On top of that are the guest curators; they edited a magazine, programmed events, moderated panels, invited readers, or put together an exhibition. They collectively made our platform a diverse, electric showcase of as many artists as possible while keeping the programs in conversation with one another.

And then there are those who sought opportunities to create & the mentors, instructors, & artists who guided them in workshops & in studio hours. This month we witnessed the creation of clothing, posters, cyanotypes, writing, & music all while experimenting with new ways we can share stories.

Yet to be mentioned are our partners: from our beloved Zawya Cinema to the powerhouse teams at Gazebo & SAAD The Studio plus everyone who was involved across all sponsorship. This edition was enriched by their support.

To our filmmakers, every year our aim is that Manassat is a festival you are proud to be a part of. We hope we did you, your casts, crews, & loved ones justice. This platform is yours; once you’ve stepped onto Manassat you are a part of it for however long you desire. Please make this space anything you wish it to be.

Finally, to our audience… thank you for the passion, love, & for building this community.

Our 10th edition has come to an end & it is time to send individual thanks. There are so many to address (and a limit on tags). For that I am grateful. What a blessing it is to lose count of how many people it takes to put together Manassat.
