So glad @tultulmukherjee and @vargabbakshi brought Yanna into this world 🥹

Few moments from Baby Yanna's rice ceremony, an important part of Bengali culture where babies have solid food for the first time, and choose between books or hard cash (to give an inclination of what their future interests would be in). While baby's parents call all their family and friends to feed them, be silly and celebrate together.

What a good sunday 🌸

"Room207.night" is a short that was made back in 2021, just as normalcy was creeping in after the second wave of the pandemic. It was made in the spirit of an experiment- expressing anxieties that surfaced in individuals and society as the grip of ordinary reality relaxed and began to feel more virtual everyday.

Some of you may have seen this privately- and now, much thanks to @saifshyder of @cineshortspremiere, it will stream publicly on @youtube from February 2nd, 2024. If weird is your guilty pleasure, jump right in and tune!

Some Thursdays are not like any other day. I met some really amazing and beautiful women. I played with Chandrabindoo on stage for a song. I sweat like I was about to pass out anytime.
Last Thursday, I was a data scientist on leave. Last Thursday I was out-of-the-room pianist. Last Thursday, I shall remember for a long time.

Silent night- a reimagination of the nativity scene on a Christmas tree. Did this in collaboration with @kheyac for ITC Royal Bengal.
.
When @kheyac came up with this idea of a massive Christmas tree, covered in paintings, it sounded fun. But once I began work on this 9.5 feet x 7 feet tree, everything around kept going downhill. Constant winter rains, personal tragedies, regular interruptions, getting a pandal built, putting up lights, and a week of sleepless nights later I finally managed to finish this giant painting/tree, only to confront new troubles yet again. But maybe Christmas is about uncertainty. And truth is, it now exists as something so real and maybe that's all that matters.

In an empty hospital in Kolkata, India, a man faces protocols of blood, a subtly discriminatory office, and a vacant operating theater. His mind is on a loop of the last months of his wife’s life, when a quiet argument developed. When is the end of pharma-medical care, whose life is it anyway? They were an estranged couple, thrown back into intimacy by an unknown illness. Even in a dreamworld of his making, the paranoia of infection is twinned with a hesitant intimacy. The film revisits themes from Mohaiemen’s earlier Tripoli Cancelled (2017, premiered in documenta 14 in Kassel, Germany): family unit as locus for pain-beauty dyads, abandoned buildings as staging ground for lost souls, and the necessity of small prevarications to keep on living. In Tripoli, the boredom of daily life is punctuated by letters to an invisible wife, and endless readings of Richard Adams’ dark children’s book Watership Down. In Jole, a memory of final days is kept alive by the partner, and the book readings are from Syed Mujtaba Ali’s stories of Europe between the two wars.

Will be available online from 4th - 10th November 2021 at Dharamsala International Film Festival.
