Choreographer Spotlight day 4 ✨
Meet Khiari! A Senior BFA candidate making his student works return!
Khiari is a bright performer pursuing his BFA in dance whose choreography focuses on connecting the feelings of the audience and displaying community through African American dance forms. With a focus in developing in hip hop, acting, and performance, Khiari started dancing at the age 10 at Mayfair Dance Academy in Chicago. Afterwards he spent his time dancing at his public high school while volunteering his choreography to many community, holiday, and police appreciation events.

A little bit about his piece: His piece is one that is taken from the choreographer’s personal progression in life. Through physical, metal, and spiritual growth the piece names the three main teachings that push him through life.

The dancers have been rehearsing in true “Cunningham fashion” in silence, but their music will be performed live by Eli Fieldsteel with media generated by @makejetz. Come see it October 10-12, 2024, at Tryon Festival Theatre.

To create safe spaces and embrace joy is my goal in this life. Thank you to the beautiful souls both on stage and behind the scenes who went on this journey with me. A special thank you to Landon and Kamau for being my saving graces for music. To see something born during such a hard period of my life be taken and used to breathe new life into the world. I never imagined I’d be so blessed to see it in this form. Thank you thank you thank you ❤️
