Filmmaking or fighting, can’t do either without good friends in our corner.

Paris and I have known each other for about five years. Met through Gracie Barra back when I was still vlogging jiu-jitsu in 2020, before I ever made the switch to cinematography full-time.

Funny how it worked out. He kept chasing the fight. I picked up a camera. And five years later we’re both still at it, just trying to become greater versions of ourselves, and getting to document it along the way.

That’s the whole idea behind Seek First: cinematic docs about people chasing something bigger than themselves. Couldn’t think of a better person to point the lens at first.

Shoutout to the friends who made this one happen

Doc teaser drop.

“Not everyone gets a clean start, but we can find purpose in what we choose to pursue.”

Paris and I have been documenting his MMA journey over the past five years. He’s one of the most steadfast people I’ve worked with. Can’t wait to watch him dominate the world.

Grateful to @christianelifilms and @khoalitylife for jumping in on this one!

It's a new era

Training like an athlete is in and I hope it stays in tbh

Looking good is a great goal but you can still add elements of athletic training that'll help you feel coordinated and functional and not so stiff

Also apparently uncoordinated dudes are giving the ick right now 🤷🏻‍♂️

Obviously at the end of the day you should train for yourself. Don't limit your box to just aesthetics, you're much more capable than that

You don’t need to become a marathon runner or stop lifting either to have well rounded training and remember...running ≠ sprinting

Most people throw running, tempo running, and sprints all into “cardio” but that is a very bodybuilding framework of how to view fitness. They train completely different systems: Running being aerobic and sprinting being anaerobic.

Adding in sprints and tempo runs doesn't make you hybrid but it does add a great amount of value to your quality of life, performance in the gym, and overall athleticism

🏃🏻‍♂️💨 Sprinting is anaerobic and high intensity:
- Usually maximal intent and needs full recovery
- It trains explosiveness, rate of force development
- Improves CNS output which carries over to lifting

🏃🏻‍♂️🫁 Running is aerobic and lower intensity:
- Longer distances, steady pace
- Builds your engine (heart, lungs, circulation)
- Helps you recover faster between sets & sessions
- Improves work capacity so you can handle more training

🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♂️Tempo runs (the bridge between both):
- 60–75% effort, repeat runs (100–400m typically)
- Not max speed, not slow jogging but builds the aerobic system without killing your explosiveness
- Improves recovery, rhythm, and efficiency
- Lets you get conditioning work in without frying your CNS (All my conditioning for the mile has been here)

Lifting heavy creates residual fatigue both muscular and neural. Even if you feel “strong,” that fatigue can blunt athletic performance:

🔌 Rate of force development
🦘 Elastic/reactive qualities
💨 Coordination at high speeds

So your true speed and jump ability are often sitting underneath that fatigue, not fully expressed

If your goal is athletic performance or just wanting to "feel more athletic", a few months of shifting your focus to

✅ More plyometrics
✅ More sprints
✅ Less lifting volume (not necessarily none)
✅ Potentially reduced squat depth / ROM (partial squats, pin squats, etc.)

CNS drives performance. Stress and fatigue mask it.

High-intensity sprinting and plyos require a fresh CNS. Reducing lifting volume allows:

⚡Better motor unit recruitment
⚡Sharper coordination
⚡Higher quality outputs per rep

🌈 periodization...welcome

Goal is sub 6 min mile for APEX. Easy week so kept volume low but intensity high

Seeing where the upper body strength is but still fitting in conditioning for the mile

Just touching on intensity and recover before the final block before APEX competition end of April

400m repeats are a great middle ground to build aerobic capacity for mile training and general athleticism for individual or team sports

🔵Great for running a faster mile: You're training your ability to run at a controlled speed but build aerobic capacity. Today I ran them at around mile pace (6:00 goal) which helps with
🏃🏻‍♂️ Speed endurance: Holding fast mechanics while fatigue builds
🏃🏻‍♂️ Lactate tolerance: Getting comfortable when things start to burn
🏃🏻‍♂️ Pacing awareness: Learning what mile rhythm actually feels like

🔴 Builds work capacity without destroying you: Mechanics don’t break down as much. CNS fatigue stays lower compared to longer runs. You can keep quality and posture.

🟡 Preserves elasticity and running mechanics: 400m is relatively short, athletes can still run with: Good stiffness in the ankle, good ground contacts, maintain rhythm and bounce that still transfers over to athleticism and field and court sports.
