🔱 Maa Durga, Mahishasura Mardini

Nine days of her many forms, and on the eve of Dussehra, she rises whole. The warrior, the mother, the one who ends what needs to end so good can win.

Aigiri Nandini has always given me goosebumps, so this one is my offering to her before Vijayadashami. 🌸

Jai Mata Di 🙏

Turns out sometimes nervous system regulation looks a lot like dancing with your girlfriends. 💃

Movement. Connection. Laughter. Music. Being around people who make you feel good.

This is co-regulation.
This is movement support.
And this is why your village matters.

Oh, how I missed this. 🤍

So happy to be back dancing at @ladancefit with my girls @sandrahsuart + @khinds2 🤍

And @kiarilk @kikipixs … choreographer, dance instructor AND videographer. We put you to work. Thank you ❤️❤️😂🎥

Part of why I started Next Evolution Collective is because I genuinely love bringing people together.

I’ve always believed that everyone has something to offer someone else. A perspective. A skill. An introduction. A way of supporting you that you may not have even known you needed.

And I’ve learned in my own life that things are just better when you have a team around you.

This photo is such a simple example of that.

Kiari Kirk @kiarilk has been my dance instructor for years, and Matthew Day @matthew_j_day is one of my instructors @platefit . They’ve each been such an inspiring and meaningful part of my own wellness journey, in completely different ways.

So of course, I wanted them to meet.

Because sometimes the person who has been part of your village has something to offer someone else’s.

That instinct to connect people is a huge part of why I created Next Evolution Collective in the first place. To bring incredible people together. To make it easier to find the people, practices and resources that can help us through different seasons of our lives.

None of us is meant to do all of this alone.

It takes a village. 🤍

I avoided dance for over a year.

If you know me, you know how unusual that is. I grew up dancing. I’ve always loved it. Dance has always been one of the places where I feel most alive, most in my body, and most connected to my sensual, feminine side.

But after heartbreak, that part of me became so intertwined with grief that I didn’t want to go near it.

So I didn’t.

I did a lot of other things to heal. Therapy. Meditation. Exercise. Building something new. Taking care of my kids. Learning how to be okay on my own.

But there was a part of myself I still wasn’t ready to reclaim.

Today, I walked back into a dance class.

And somewhere between thinking about the steps and feeling the music again, I realized something:

I don’t need a man to witness that part of me for it to exist.

My sensuality is mine. My femininity is mine. My aliveness is mine.

We talk so much about healing as something that happens in our minds. Processing. Understanding. Changing our thoughts. Making meaning out of what happened.

But healing happens in our bodies, too.

Sometimes moving forward means returning to something you once loved and discovering that it still belongs to you.

Maybe there’s something you’ve been avoiding, too. Something that used to make you feel alive, but became too connected to a version of your life you had to let go of.

Maybe your next evolution isn’t about becoming someone new.

Maybe it’s about reclaiming a part of yourself you thought you’d lost.

So what’s yours?

Mine was dance.

Thank you @kiarilk @amy_rob100 for getting my booty back to @ladancefit It felt really fucking good!! 💃👊
