I have been thinking a lot lately about the matter of consent. This is an issue that enters the adult world far too often but it can enter the lives of children also. When considering how to broach the topic of consent and what that actually means for children in the preschool years, I think it is important to start with situations that are relatable and easily understood. Not wanting to hug, not wanting to give kisses, asking permission and listening to their bodies are all fundamental rights of children, I believe the books I have selected here highlight those topics with child friendly language and illustrations.

A cozy fall read about a gap in an old stone wall that lets different animals slip into the farmyard.

A silly mystery/detective story that kept my kids’ attention until the very end. My kids were using their imaginations and reading comprehension skills to figure out who the good thief was throughout the story.

A beautiful story about a boy learning to appreciate the traits he got from his family and his heritage. I love how it introduced the beauty of why people look different.

A living book perfect for an ocean or mollusk unit study, describing how oysters keep the oceans clean.

A sweet story about a boy mouse who uses his gifts to help his family. My kids like when I read this with a New York accent.

We highly recommend checking out the picture books on your next library or bookstore visit! These stories make for wonderful read alouds for the elementary child(ren) in your life.

We've themed today into stories about community and what we call "life." Life stories are stories about everyday experinces that may seem small but feel big! Plus they ate just good books that deserve inclusion in this list!!

Another reminder, there is no particular order to how we are organizing these books within the given theme. This is not a comprehensive list but a list of what we love to read aloud to elementary folk.

Take it apart brings creativity and celebrates the fun of breaking things down to make them again 💕

100% encourages for problem-solving, and creativity together in one space 💕 .

Maha was astonished to see how take it apart applies to her day to day math and spelling learning as well and even recycling or composting.

Fun book for all ages to rethink and not to worry about breaking stuff ☺️☺️☺️

@blue_slip_media Thankyou for the wonderful copy of this book @kidlitlove @elizabetvukovic #creativity #books #joyful #problemsolving #fun @lernerbooks

My review: Read this with my 7 year old and she LOVED it! I also have a little wild boy who is almost 3 and LOVES being alongside his papa or dad helping when they are fixing things or taking things apart! Something tells me he is going to be my take it apart guy! Also think he’ll really enjoy this book in a few years!

Take It Apart. It is an honor to review @kidlitlove book! Microscopes and tools are big in this house! We have a microscope out on our table and you cannot imagine the conversations that go on with friends that have never seen one! We looked at seaweed and saliva the other day. Very interesting!
This book is great for those who like to take things apart, look deeply into household items, fix things, and are always asking questions! Keep exploring!The illustrations and rhyming text make it very fun to read.
.
Thanks to @blue_slip_media for a review copy.
