Thank you to everyone who posted, texted, called and FaceTimed to wish me a happy birthday. My Mom always taught me to count my blessings. As I celebrate 54 years around the sun, I am grateful for family that catches me when I fall, for besties who build me up, for a universe of supporters who make me stronger, and for rich experiences I will never forget. I’m grateful for my big sis Louise surviving cancer and for seeing Ghana with her and my other big sis Clarencia. Ghana recap time! I had the most incredible, spiritual, life-changing experience visiting the Motherland. Touching down with my sisters was like coming home. I returned renewed and ready to take on the world. What I loved most was this wasn’t a typical tourist vacation - it was custom-curated through Africa Embodied and was the perfect blend of culture, connection and beautiful experiences. It felt immersive, intentional and deeply personal. I’m so thankful for the care and thoughtfulness put into making my first Ghana visit phenomenal. "What changes when we are in the room from the beginning?"⁠ ⁠ At Let Our Rejoicing Rise, Tracey Moore shared an example of how she holds the burden of being the one to educate the room so that Black actors, characters, and stories don't suffer under stereotypes. ⁠ ⁠ This is a woman who took full ownership of this reality despite it potentially costing her job, her autonomy, etc. in an industry that is all too quick to silence those of us who speak up and speak out. ✨️ For a moment in time, nothing else mattered! I laughed big, danced hard and ate cake! 🤣 I had a fun birthdaaaay! ✨️💃🏽  And to be fully honest, the freedom meant so much to me. Almost two years ago... I could barely walk after falling in a cave. The x-ray shows more damage than the eyes can see. It affected previous dance injuries as well, and I had to take myself seriously, keep calm through pain, and stay grateful that life still keeps me excited! I'm fortunate to have love, community, and support. This birthday, I will say... take care of your bodies so it doesn't break your spirit with disappointment. Talk to your body and keep it alive. It listens... as you can see in the videos! It's daily work and rest to keep going, but God restores, and I celebrated my life! Cheers to how I will cherish this love forever. Two events. One day. One posture …. service. The first was a book signing and creative writing workshop. Congratulations to @mike.n.ikes05 on the release of your new book! What an honor to help create space for it to be received well. The second was a powerful panel hosted by @reelfamilies (Reel Families for Change), bringing together dynamic and seasoned leaders who have been and are actively taking up space in television and film. The room was rich with wisdom, strategy, and lived experience. Through @holyhousecafe, I had the privilege of serving both spaces ensuring the atmosphere felt intentional, warm, and excellent. For me, hospitality isn’t just about what’s poured, it’s about what’s felt. It’s presence. It’s preparation. It’s honoring the assignment with excellence that reflects the King. Grateful to serve. Grateful to build. Grateful to do it with intention.
