I met Katie back in 2022 when I did her UGA college grad photos with a group of 6 girls. At that time, I was just closing up my first official year as a full-time photographer so it just felt like she was there since the beginning.

Last year, I had briefly seen the group again at @devan_chavez14 wedding where it just felt like a little reunion. Getting to see familiar faces and catch up just reminded me of how much I love this job.

Fast forward to last week, I got to photograph Katie’s wedding and got to briefly see majority of the group from that grad shoot back in 2022 again. But this time it felt different. The countless hugs, the random but repetitive “I love you’s”, and the comfort I carried knowing Katie wasn’t only thankful for me, but that she trusted me and found a sense of peace with me in the midst of the chaos of a wedding day just made me feel as if I was photographing my little sister’s wedding.

4 years later and only seeing this group 3 times and somehow I feel this older brother level of care to the 6 of them. I don’t know how and I don’t know what it is, but this job has a way of bringing you closer to people in a way I never saw coming. I’m not sure if it’s the emotions of a wedding day, the trauma bonding from stressors that are out of our control, or the sense of connectedness of being in monumental moments in a person’s life - whatever it is. I’m just thankful. And I’m honored to walk alongside so many people’s stories. Whether that’s graduations, engagements, weddings, or maternity shoots, I’m thankful for all the clients who’ve become my people.
