In-season speed doesn’t have to mean more sprinting. ⚡

Your athletes are already running at practice and in games all week. Most likely hitting top speed a few times per week which is required to maintain speed!

Adding max-effort flying 10s on top of that is more strain on the hamstrings when the legs are already tired. And it’s a risk reward!

So how do we keep them fast without adding more sprints? We keep them explosive, and we do it with less wear on their legs.

🔴 Sled pushes: Moderately Heavy, short pushes that train the acceleration position (body lean, shin angle, pushing hard into the ground) without high-speed sprinting.

🔴 Band-resisted jumps: Adding load to the jump makes them produce more force. That builds strength in the jump without heavy barbell work.

🔴 Band-assisted jumps: The bands take away some bodyweight, so they leave the ground and get back off it faster. This trains the nervous system to be quick.

🔴 Banded Oscillating Drills : Fast repeats against a band. Many of these are the same cycling motion as sprinting, but without the hamstring strain of a full-speed rep.

The result: low volume and high intent. Athletes leave feeling fresh, not drained, and they’re still fast in the playoffs.

Speed is a skill, and it fades if you stop training it. In-season, the goal is to train it smart. 🧠
