**THIS IS A PREVIEW - FULL VIDEO ON @_bmproductions_ / @boulosdrums YOUTUBE NOW** Filmed at Norwood Community Media, The Life of Royal Hartigan is an interview and musical documentation project exploring Royal’s thoughts and experiences surrounding music, teaching, collaboration, and life. The project begins with a one-on-one interview between Royal Hartigan and Joe Boulos, followed by a discussion featuring former students Ryan Loud and Logan Amaral. Throughout the interview and discussion, Royal shares stories, reflections, and insights from his life and career. The conversation is complemented by solo performances by Royal, as well as group performances featuring Royal, Ryan, Logan and Joe. This project serves as a companion to Joe Boulos’s master’s thesis, Unconventional Wisdom in Resonating Echoes of the Past: A Memoir on the Life and Music of Royal Hartigan, and is part of his ongoing documentation of Royal’s life, music, and teachings. Through personal conversation, shared experiences, and musical performance, the interview highlights the importance of mentorship, collaboration, and the experiences that help shape both artistic and personal development. Incredibly proud to finally share the reading of my new piece, Rev-Line Misfire. I wrote this work for modern big band, bringing together influences from progressive metal, jazz tradition, and contemporary concert music. Let me know your thoughts 👀 Huge thanks to the @nejazzcollab New England Jazz Collaborative Ensemble, conducted by @ken.schaphorst , and to my friends and colleagues at @longymusic for their incredible musicianship and for bringing this piece to life. The full performance is available through the YouTube link in my bio!
