A Living Legend Rolls On. ✈️🇮🇳

The unmistakable silhouette of the Indian Air Force Heritage Flight’s Dakota C-47 “Parashuram” taxiing after another breathtaking display, a sight that brings aviation history to life.

More than 90 years after the DC-3 first took to the skies, this legendary aircraft continues to captivate audiences while preserving a vital chapter of Indian military aviation history.

The Dakota was far more than a transport aircraft. It became the backbone of the IAF’s transport fleet for decades and played a pivotal role during the historic 1947 Srinagar Airlift, carrying Indian troops into Kashmir during one of the most critical moments in the nation’s history. From supplying remote Himalayan outposts to supporting operations through multiple conflicts, the Dakota earned its place among the most important aircraft ever to wear Indian roundels.

The aircraft seen here, affectionately known as “Parashuram,” is an IAF Dakota that was painstakingly restored to flying condition after spending years overseas in civilian hands. Following an extensive restoration in Ireland, it embarked on an epic ferry flight back to India in 2018, returning home to once again fly under the Indian tricolour as the crown jewel of the IAF Heritage Flight.

Today, watching this magnificent aircraft taxi after an air display is a reminder that history doesn’t always belong in museums.

Sometimes, history still flies. ✈️🇮🇳
