POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This one is for my people.

The people who answer the call. Who rearrange schedules. Who show up early, stay late, carry equipment, learn lines, solve problems, make something out of nothing and somehow still ask me, “What are we doing next?”

I know what you’re worth.

And I know that right now, I cannot always give you what you’re worth financially. I don’t take that lightly. Not for one second.

So when I say I’m working to build something bigger, I need you to understand that “bigger” doesn’t just mean bigger for me.

I mean bigger budgets. Bigger opportunities. Bigger checks. Bigger credits. Bigger rooms with your names in them too.

One day, I want us to look back at these little sets, these long days and these films we made with whatever we had—and realize we were building it the entire time.

Thank you for believing in me before I have everything I need to prove you were right.

Just keep sticking with me.

I really believe I can take us far. I promise.

The reviews are in… and whew. 🥹

M.A.I.D. - written and directed by @mrblakemartin
Starring @kimichelle_steele and @brynne.london

M.A.I.D. was never meant to give you an easy answer. It was meant to start a conversation. About love. Dignity. Choice. Faith. Fear. And what it really means to let somebody you love make a decision you may not understand.

Reading these reviews has been incredible because everybody walked away with something different. Some agreed. Some struggled with it. Some cried. Some laughed. Some were still thinking about it hours later.

That’s exactly what I wanted.

Thank you to everyone who has watched, reviewed, shared, debated and sat with this little film.

And now we can officially add AWARD WINNER to the conversation.

M.A.I.D. is streaming now exclusively on BlkScript.

Swipe through the reviews → then go watch the film for yourself. 🩵

M.A.I.D. is officially a WINNER at the Athens International Art Film Festival!

I made this film because I wanted to tell a quiet, human story about choice, dignity, compassion, and what it means to have agency over your own life — even at the very end.

To see that story travel beyond us and connect with people across the world means more than I can put into a caption.

To my cast, crew, and every single person who gave their time, talent, heart, and trust to this little film… we won this together.

Athens, thank you for seeing M.A.I.D. and honoring our work.

Stories that matter.
Conversations that change lives.

And we’re just getting started. 🏆

Films aren’t made by one person. They’re built in the moments where everybody shows up, locks in, and brings their piece to the table.

Every frame of M.A.I.D. carries the fingerprints of a team that believed in the story and trusted each other enough to bring it to life.

Different roles. Different talents. One vision.

HER LIFE. HER CHOICE. HER TERMS.

What happens when loving someone means respecting a choice you would do anything to change?

M.A.I.D. is a story about love, autonomy, grief, and the impossible space between holding on and letting go.

Starring Kimberly Steele and Brynne London.

Written & Directed by Blake Martin.

I’m learning that directing isn’t always about having the loudest vision in the room. Sometimes it’s about knowing when to get out of the way.

M.A.I.D. asked something different of me as a director. There were no big speeches to hide behind. No spectacle. Just two women, one room, an impossible decision, and all the things people say — and don’t say — when love and grief are sitting across from each other.

So much of making this film was about restraint. Trusting the actors. Trusting silence. Trusting a look to do what three pages of dialogue could never do. Understanding that my job wasn’t to tell the audience what to feel, but to create enough truth that they could find the feeling themselves.

Every film teaches me something new about the kind of director I want to become.

M.A.I.D. taught me that sometimes the most powerful thing you can yell on set is… nothing at all.
Just let the moment live.
