Got to go back to Mabilong, Lubuagan, Kalinga to visit the Bawer family. Last time I was in Kalinga was in 2018 and my heart has longed to be there. Being back felt like I was with family again - picking up where I left off.

Dancing, chanting, playing music, and doing karaoke with everyone was a great way to end this immersion. I’m already missing the Green Silence and seeing how embodied their culture is. Conversations with Papa Sapi remind me of the importance of cultural work and continuing to share more about Philippine Indigenous culture to not only raise awareness or educate but to empower us both in the Philippines and the diaspora to be proud of our identity. Istaychiyoy! 🦅⛰️🌻

Chose Narda because of the rocker bbs. 🥹💕

Another trip to Tawi-Tawi and one where we also got go to Tabawan. For our first day back, we got to stay with Ate Sidang and her family. Kuya Lodge took care of us before Ate Sidang arrived the next morning when we were to go to Tabawan.

By regular boat, Tabawan is 8 hours away. By speedboat, we arrived after 2 hours under the sun. There they have the traditional houses where no metal nails are used just large wood nails created to hold the houses together. We also met an active community who showcased their Igal as well as invited us to dance for them. To be able to dance together and get sniff kisses from the Lola’s was the highlight of this trip. We also bring back with us more movement vocabulary from witnessing how gracefully they dance Igal in Tabawan.
