Larping the boards
Secondary schools track nationals/south islands. First time ever on the indoor velodrome for me and first time in about 4 months since I was on a track bike. Fair to say I had a LOT of learning experience over the 3 days on the track.

Super stoked with some of my results considering I had only learned to ride on the indoor one day beforehand. My standing 250m start was abysmal but it was an excellent way to knock out the nerves before my scratch race and my first ever ride on the track with more than 2 people. The scratch race was pretty awesome, I decided to test my luck and breakaway solo from around 10 laps to go, this went surprisingly well and I managed to put over half a lap into the field. In the end 2 riders caught me and I settled for a 3rd. Happy to also land a 3rd overall in the South Island for u19 men.

This was an awesome event and a real eye opener, I may be considering a grand lock in for track racing. Big thanks to everyone who helped and supported me, Dad for yelling at me to go faster. Big thanks to Felix and Stu for getting my bike on the right gearing and making sure it won't snap in half. Big thanks to DSP, Track Cycling Nelson and Jason for lending me equipment. Big thanks to CLM Richmond for their support, allowing me to use their awesome facilities which helped me muster a bit more power on the fixie. Cheers to Kinetrix Performance Gels for their amazing supplements.

Looking forward to the next couple of months with some gravel racing coming up and getting school over with.

Yunca Junior Tour of Southland 2026

Day 1 at the Teratonga circuit was great, laying down a solid TT landing me in 6th on GC. Later on in stage 2 during the Kermesse I managed to breakaway with 2 other riders with over 20km to go resulting in our breakaway putting 54 seconds into the rest of the peleton landing me in 2nd on GC and 3rd for stage 2. A hard day in the breakaway with an average power of 350w for 40min+ as well as a 20min power of just shy of 400w.

Day 2 was a hard day for me physically and mentally with two 70km+ stages. Stage 3 I managed to get another 3rd in a bunch sprint. Stage 4 was challenging with fatigue beginning to catch up, I managed to hold it together and finish in the bunch with a top 10.

Day 3 was a fun one starting off with a long 86km stage in the morning which was thankfully flat which led to an early break and lots of chasing for the group. I sat in and finished top 10 in a sprint finish with a failed attempt to lead Boston out for a sprint finish. To conclude the tour stage 6 was a fast criterium which I attacked from the gun and was away for an entire lap! Eventually got caught and rolled with the bunch until a long sprint finish where I got a mighty lead out from Jack.

Overall a great tour and I am super stoked with how I went with a 7th place on the general classification and being in top ten for all the other stages and classifications.

This race would not have been possible without my amazing sponsors which helped me and supported me with training, supplements and equipment. Big shout out to Dad for taking me down and putting up with my shit. Thank you so much to Bikes by Felix and the Nelson crew for your support with bike repairs, equipment checks and backing me up when things went south. A massive thanks to my coach Stuart for having me best preparing for the racing and backing me up.

Thanks heaps to CLM Richmond for allowing me to use the gym and pool for strength and recovery training. A massive thanks to Kinetrix Performance Gels for their awesome fuel, these gels saved me on those big days.

The classic 2-year season.

Finishing it off in Copenhagen at the World Road Running Championships 🇩🇰

It’s been pretty full send for the last two years. What keeps me going is knowing there’s always another race, another championship and another goal to chase. For those who know me well, I’ve always needed something to aim for. And honestly, I just love running.

Sunday was the 5th time I’ve run 63 minutes for the half marathon. At first, I thought it was probably just an average day, but looking back, it was actually one of my better performances over the distance.

The time wasn’t what I wanted, or what I know I’m capable of, but the conditions were tough and I was probably carrying a bit of fatigue from a long season. Everyone was in the same boat though. I stayed patient, didn’t burn too much energy early and moved through 25 places in one of the deepest world-class fields you could ask for.

That’s the reality of running at this level. Recovery and downtime are important, but you also have to keep racing to keep moving forward and create the opportunities to race against the best in the world. I’m incredibly grateful for the support I have and for the people who make these opportunities possible.

It was pretty special to be part of another NZ team and represent New Zealand on the world stage. 🇳🇿

Now it’s time for some proper rest and recovery before we start again.

My 13-year-old self would be pretty proud of where I am today, and even more excited about where I’m going.

The journey continues
