🖤 The hub for all things Black lit, authors, readers + publishing
📚 Kinfolk Lit Fest (fka Black Book Bash)
✨ A Literary Family Reunion

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A major new literary festival called the Kinfolk Lit Fest (@kinfolklitfest) is celebrating Black authors, readers, and publishing professionals. The event is coming to Indianapolis, Indiana, and will debut July 16-18, 2027, bringing together more than 200 authors and cultural voices, including bestselling writers Tayari Jones, Jason Reynolds, Sadeqa Johnson, Victoria Christopher Murray, Tiffany D. Jackson, and actor and author Eriq La Salle.

Founded by Casey Raynell Kelley (@iamcaseyrkelley), the three-day festival will feature more than 140 conversations across eight literary genres, along with live readings, workshops, keynote speeches, book signings, fireside chats, and complimentary sit-down dinners. The event will also spotlight emerging Black writers, independent booksellers, and publishing professionals, creating opportunities to network, collaborate, and celebrate Black storytelling.

Kinfolk Lit Fest grew out of Black Book Bash, a 2025 gathering that evolved into a year-round literary community. Kelley describes the festival as a “family reunion” for people who love Black books and culture.

I applied to be a Lit Cuzzin @kinfolklitfest !! 🤭

As a lover of Black authors and Black literature, this book festival is definitely on my bucket list to attend. Festivals like this are so important today when books are under threat, Black people are being portrayed as unintelligent and dangerous, and students are struggling with literacy. I am HONORED for the opportunity to apply to be a part of such an impactful, fun, cultural event!

Y'all gather your best prayer warriors and keep your fingers crossed that they see how LIT your fave ARC Angel is and choose me to be a Lit Cuzzin. 😎😜

Thank you to the organizers for such an awesome opportunity and for such an amazing event! And thank you to my girl @rhondaisreading for putting me on and letting me know applications were open! Love you lots! Even if I'm not chosen, I'm racking my coins up to try an attend!

Where did my story for Embrace Your Dash: Reclaim Your Story in a Noisy World come from? More importantly, what parts of my early life helped shape me? This book can help you turn what others may perceive as “different” about you into strength, build confidence in who you are, and reconsider what truly deserves your time and attention. Your story matters, and your uniqueness has value.

I have friends who write novels. And apparently they also enjoy putting me through emotional distress. 😂📚

Tomorrow, my friend Lorna Lewis releases her newest novel, Broken Glass Houses, and when I tell y’all this book is a RIDE?! Secrets. Lies. Family drama. Friendship and loyalty pushed to their limits.

Broken Glass Houses is out TOMORROW, September 22! You can grab the physical book for your shelves OR, starting tomorrow, it’ll be available on Kindle Unlimited WITH THE AUDIO INCLUDED. So however you like to read, you re covered. 🙌🏾 NO EXCUSES 😙

And if you want to meet Lorna yourself, she’ll be joining us at KinFolk Lit (@kinfolklit) next year in Indiana! 🙌🏾📚 I am SO excited that y’all will get to experience her in person. And yes, I will still be complaining to her about the emotional damage she has caused me. 😂

Until then: BUY HER BOOK. READ HER BOOK. And maybe go ahead and find yourself a good therapist. 🤣

Congratulations, friend! I’m so proud of you. ❤️📚 #brokenglasshouses #lornalewis #pubday #ilovereading #bookworm
