Thank you for receiving my one-night (ridiculous) art show “On Loving Bodies” so warmly. I’m sorry I can’t tag everyone or thank all of you individually. Thank you @little_garlic_sprout for photos. If you’re missing that magical night, please see below excerpts from a LETTER IN REVIEW that a dear friend wrote.

“Dear Airin,

. . . . what Yahaya suggests about the sheer bravery of being visible, of resisting ideas that queerness should not escape the privacy of one’s home, let alone be flaunted and indulged for others to see, reminded me of your art show, and what it might begin to offer politically.

First of all, there’s where it was. You held “On Loving Bodies” for one night only just minutes from the White House. . . .

. . . . Your show, then, the roughly eleven sets of film and digital photographs, prints, and paintings featuring queer friends and family, grandparents receiving socialized healthcare, and places outside the continental U.S., I want to imagine as a beginning of a form of resistance to erasure and collective amnesia. . . .

For me, your photo series of six individual bellies, “Our Bellies” best presents a challenge to the cheap ideas of bigotry and exceptionalism being peddled to us today. . . . I liked the follow-up cheek of “Belly Community,” the acrylic paintings of queer and/or trans torsos which toy with the viewer. “Good boy” “hunky toy,”: who is really vulnerable here? Could “hi mommy” be me?
