Autumn is always my favourite time if year, but it really showed off in Mongolia! The colors were absolutely stunning and the landscape was incredible. The difficulty of the hike wasn't overly complicated but this area was just so gorgeous-crazy to think how close to the Chinese border we were.

Living with a Mongolian eagle hunter 🦅

Meet Bashakhan, the 63 year nomadic eagle hunter who has been eagle hunting 32 years.

We got to stay at his winter encampment in one of his Gers and watch while he prepared for the legendary Eagle Festival.

By the end of our stay, we truly felt like family 🥹 so excited to cheer him on at the festival today!!

We have become obsessed with the Mongolian throat singing rock back @thehuofficial 🇲🇳 they have been the soundtrack of our trip!!!

Wow!! I have no words except this underrated country belongs on your bucket list 🇲🇳 Mongolia has left me speechless.

It’s beyond beautiful here & getting to share it with the most wonderful group of women has exceeded every expectation and hope I had for this country 😩♥️

So many more updates to come but I’m currently uploading from a field surrounded by cows & am heading to bed in our cozy yurts before attending the Eagle Festival tomorrow. Too excited to sleep!! 🫶🏻

MONGOLIA 🇲🇳

Currently in the very western tip of Mongolia staying in a traditional ger with local nomadic families. We’ve seen spectacular night skies, went on a gorgeous day hike through the Altai mountains and spent the evening around the fire sipping yak milk tea and asking our hosts about their nomadic lifestyle 🫶🏻

We love getting to share another adventurous trip with the beautiful & wonderful @nurseb_loves ♥️

If you travel around Mongolia, you’ll see these legendary Soviet UAZ vans everywhere known as ‘Bukhanka’, literally meaning ‘loaf of bread’ 🤭

These adorable little vans are hugely popular & here’s why 👇🏻

* 4-wheel drive and surprisingly capable on awful dirt tracks
* Mechanically very simple, so drivers can repair them in super remote areas without sophisticated equipment
* High enough and rugged enough for mud, rivers, rocks and the steppe
* Big enough to carry people + camping equipment + food

And yes: they genuinely are Soviet-era vehicles, not just retro-looking vans.

But we love our little retro roadtrip vans so much we named ours Ladybug 🐞 our group is split between 3 cars and it’s so cute watching them chug down the road 🚐

Although the speedometer could use some work (last slide😂) we had so much fun driving through the beautiful Mongolian scenery today!!

My love letter to India 💌

Got to celebrate Holi Festival in India a few weeks ago with some pretty amazing people 🤩🌈⭐️This Hindu holiday represents spring, new life eternal love, and the victory of good over evil. I’ve been wanting to post my pictures and videos from this trip but it felt disingenuous not sharing how I actually felt during these days. Despite this joyous holiday, I felt a deep sadness starting to grieve the life and legacy of my grandpa back home. And as my cousin said, it was the beginning of the end of a chapter we were not ready to close.

Both my grandparents and parents instilled my love for travel at such a young age, and being here felt like a full-circle moment… Celebrating life and love with my best friends on the other side of the globe. My grandpa passed on March 19, and even in his last days, he never stopped asking where I was in the world and beamed with pride that I’m a nurse.., something that we talked about every single phone call the past few years 🥹😂 I’m so grateful for the last FaceTime we got to share🤍

This trip was amazing and SO fun, but it was also heavy. There were a lot of tears and moments of grieving the big and little things that were about to change. BUT I took comfort in knowing that he and my grandma would want me to be happy and keep on enjoying my adventures, something my grandma and I would talk about before my trips… I could hear their voices in my head and tried my best to be present and enjoy the moment because I know that’s what they would have wanted. They were my favorite people to share my travels with… even if they thought I was a little crazy 😜

I’m so thankful for my little community on @wanderlustgrouptrips for being the best support system and allowing me the space to grieve while sharing memories of my grandpa.

I’m so grateful for the beautiful life they gave our family and especially the special memories at Higgins Lake I hold so dearly. Rest in paradise my cutie gramps🤍🤍🤍 I already miss our calls, visits, your stories, and your funny commentary🤭
