Trans Laureate @iamnaiymahsanchez was recently in Washington, DC, lobbying for the reintroduced Transgender Bill of Rights, a federal legislative proposal to guarantee protections for Trans Americans. She also petitioned for a ban conversion therapy, reinstating the #988 TLGBQ+ line, and other legislation that impacts Trans folxs in America.

We are proud to see Ms. Sanchez continue to use her voice to protect and uplift our trans siblings across the country. Way to go, Laureate!

This year was arduous for trans people everywhere. There’s no soft way to say that.

But even in the hardest moments, there were sparks. Small, radiant glimmers of hope found in community, creativity, and care.

@thetranslaureate is built on those sparks. On the belief that trans brilliance deserves to be seen, supported, and sustained—especially when the world tries to dim it.

As we step into the new year, we carry forward what kept us going: our stories, our voices, and each other.

Happy New Year. We’re still here, and we’re not done.

Today on World AIDS Day and every day, my heart is with every person living with HIV, every loved one we have lost, and every community that has carried this fight for decades.

More than 40 million people around the world are living with HIV. Last year we saw 1.3 million new infections and more than 600 thousand deaths. These numbers matter because they represent our people, our families, and our communities.

Right now we are watching the United States step back from the global HIV response in ways that are dangerous and irresponsible. Freezing funding for programs that have saved millions of lives does real harm.

👉🏽 Clinics are cutting services.
👉🏽Prevention work is slowing down.
👉🏽Treatment access is becoming uncertain for the people who need it most.

Even with all of this, I feel a deep sense of power. We have survived silence, stigma, underfunding, and political hostility before, and we are still here pushing forward.

Our community has never waited for permission to survive. We have always shown that when we come together, we can change the world.

So today is both a reminder and a commitment.

❤️ We honor the legacy of our elders.
✊🏽We confront stigma with truth and compassion.
📢We demand full access to care and prevention.
‼️We challenge policies that put our people at risk.
❤️ We move with the belief that ending HIV is possible when we take collective responsibility for one another.

Our strength has always come from each other. That is how we will win this fight too.

Trans history has been made! Rounding out Transgender Awareness Week, Philly-based Naiymah Sanchez (@iamnaiymahsanchez) has been named the @thetranslaureate, the world’s first Transgender Laureate. Her voice. Her vision. Her laurel crown. Congratulations!

Equalpride, the publisher of Out, is proud to be the media sponsor of the Bernadine Casseus Transgender Laureate program. 🏳️‍⚧️✨️

I join the community in mourning the loss of yet another trans life gone far too soon.

The circumstance surrounding the death of a trans teenager in Greater Rochester on March 25th is a reminder that we as a community must do more in providing support for trans youths.

Regardless of how we look, who we love, who we pray to, or where we come from, we are first and foremost neighbors of a shared community. We must learn to lead with compassion rather than callousness, kindness rather than hatred, and respect rather than impudence.

The youth of our community are watching, and we must strive to be an example they can follow.
