John Antolini worked his magic this weekend with this fantastic brown trout from over the weekend. Great fish bud! New report is live! Check it out on our site or at the link here: https://localflyco.com/blogs/connecticut-freshwater/ct-freshwater-report-as-of-10-05-2026 October has brought us great fall foliage, both above and “below” the surface with colorful trees and colored up trout. The dry fly and nymph fishing has been decent, especially in the mid-lower river. A big tip if you’re headed out, especially in the morning-mid day, is to focus your efforts in the lower PTMA and downstream, as water temps will be much cooler than higher up in Riverton. This is due to the water coming from the dam being in the low 60’s, keeping this section warmer in comparison to the lower river. Also, the river was recently stocked from Collinsville down to the Rt. 4 bridge in Farmington. Tightlines! #troutfishing #flytying #trout #farmingtonriver #flyfishingnation #flyfishingaddict #flyfishing #flyfishinggear #streamers #FarmingtonRiverCT #euronymphing #dryflyfishing #thelocalflyco #fallfishing

Customer & friend John Antolini with a stud brown trout caught amidst beautiful fall foliage. New River report is up, click the website link on our Bio page. Everything is lining up: the leaves are changing colors, water levels are good, and the trout are biting. The whole river is in play from just below the dam to as far downstream as you want to go. Don’t limit yourself to just one section, the entire river is fishing well. Streamers, nymphs, wet flies/soft hackles, and dry flies are all having their moments. A lot of anglers love throwing streamers in the fall due to the increased aggressiveness of brown trout due to the impending spawn. The new under $300 highly breathable Simms “Second Wind” waders just arrived today- it’s a very limited run, and once they are gone, that’s it. Make sure to click on the link for the full River Report for detailed information and helpful advice. -Torrey. #upcountrysportfishing #farmingtonriver #streamerfishing #browntrout #euronymphing

First photo is John Antolini holding a stud wild brown trout nymphed up Saturday afternoon. Second is local guide John Lynch with one of many great fish him and pup Stowie brought to hand. Great work guys! Our latest CT Freshwater report is up! Head to the link in our bio or attached here: https://localflyco.com/blogs/connecticut-freshwater/ct-freshwater-report-as-of-8-24-2026 Great flows and cooler temps have kept fishing on the Farmington very good. Water levels sit around 219cfs in the permanent TMA, with water temps fishable through New Hartford/Canton. Dry fly fishing has been very productive in the mornings with Trico spinner falls (22-26) and caddis of various species (16-22), and again in the evenings with Isonychia (10-14), Cahills (12-18), Yellow Sally’s (14-18), Hebe’s (14-16) and Blue Winged Olives (20-24) all present. Subsurface fishing has been most productive with small-medium sized nymphs (16-22) with the exception of large stonefly nymphs (8-12) and Isonychia nymphs (10-14.) Have further questions or need more advice for your next outing? Give us a shout or stop by our New Hartford location! We are more than happy to help you have the best success possible on your next outing! #FarmingtonRiver #ConnecticutFishing #NewEnglandFlyFishing #DryFlyFishing #flyfishing #troutfishing #trout #thelocalflyco #browntrout #wildtrout

Pictured is friend & customer John Antolini with a beautiful brown he caught over the past weekend. New River Report is up, click the website link on our Bio page. We’ve received about 2 1/2” of rain, with most of it coming overnight and in the very early morning. Below the Still River, we are high & dirty, above that we are medium and relatively clear. The worst of the rain is behind us. We may get a little dribble today, but the river should drop & clear quickly over the next day or two. Tuesday, especially in the morning, should be a good time to throw a medium to large streamer in the off-color water in search of a large brown trout. You could also try nymphing with Junk Flies such as Mops and Squirmy Worms. If you’re fishing above the Still River in Riverton, normal tactics & flies apply- things like dry flies & small nymphs. As I write this, Riverton is 171cfs below the dam, the Still is adding in 486cfs, giving us a total flow of 757cfs and dropping. The Still River does put warm water into the river that dilutes the ice cold water from the dam, which is currently coming out in the mid to high 40s, so keep an eye on water temps. Especially as you start to get significantly downstream from the dam, and especially on sunny days. The coldest water temps are always in the mornings. The gauge in Riverton is reading 56° at the Rt. 20 bridge in mid afternoon today, right behind the shop in New Hartford it’s 67.7°. Ideally you want to stay in water 65° or less. Use your thermometer and move upstream as necessary to find cooler water. -Torrey. #upcountrysportfishing #farmingtonriver #browntrout #streamerfishing #nymphing

Customer Ben T. with an awesome Farmington River Hendrickson dry fly fish from the weekend. This hatch gets the big trout fired up. The new river report is up, click the website link on our Bio page. This is going to be a short post, the Hendrickson Hatch has been going about a week and it’s been good to excellent most days. Ideally, you want warmer temps & sunshine, the cloudy cold days can be a lot slower. Hatch is at its best from about Canton to a ways above Campground, about as far up as Pipeline and Lyman’s Rock. Nymphing remains very consistent & productive- don’t sleep on junk flies, hint hint. They made an 80 CFS reduction in the flow this morning, bringing the total flow to the mid 200 CFS range, which should only improve the dry fly fishing. The next few days look good for spinner Falls, so keep your eye out for them and make sure you have a few spinner patterns tucked away . -Torrey. #hendricksonhatch #hendrickson #eggfly #eggstasy #streamerfishing #junkflies #mopfly #squirmyworm #farmingtonriver #upcountrysportfishing #browntrout #rainbowtrout #brooktrout #nymphing #euronymphing #dryfly #nymph #wildtrout #bigtrout #flyfishing #troutfishing #trout #keepemwet #catchandreleasefishing

Team ELNino 2025 Flounder Pounder Open. When we seen that there were 375 boats registered for this tournament we knew that it’s definitely the best of the best in this thing and it was gunna take great preparation and flat out hard work to be in the top boats at the end. What a week! From pre-fish to the very last day on Sunday we were fortunate to see some of the best Fluke fishing we have seen in a long time and the overall leaderboard reflected it! Weighed a 6.7 day 1 to put us in the last spot in top 16 but we knew we needed better. Day 2 once again a shit load of fish just nothing over 5.9. Took two lay days in a row to give it our all on Sunday so we knew what we had to beat. Day 3 Sunday went back to were we left off on Day 2 and when Bert’s rod bent over 1st thing in the morning I knew it was the right one just not sure how big. Boat scale teetered around 9.4/9.5 and we could not believe it!!! Bottom of the 9th on last day and lose or win we did what is normally so difficult to do on last day of this tournament when everything is usually picked clean!! Weighed it in and scale said 9.2! Holy shit we just pulled off 2nd place in the largest Fluke tournament in the world!! With Calcutta and overall a combined $60,000 pay day!!! Wow!! Can’t be any more prouder of my guys who came up with a plan all together as a team and executed it the entire week flawlessly!! Also, Al and his Paradise team once again hitting it out of the park with all their hard work and hospitality year in year out with this tournament. You guys built this thing into a world class event and has truly been a life changing tournament for us! This year puts us close to $180K in overall $$$ that we have won since we started coming to this tournament!!!! We are more than grateful for that!! Thank you!! And thank you my dawg Ronnie, Robert, Johnnie, and Jason for an awesome team week!! You guys killed it!! #TeamELNino2025FPO #MinnKota #Instinct #DriftMode #Humminbird #Explore #Apex #MegaSideImaging #HurstCustomTackleJigs #MagicTailRods #YamahaOutboards #ParkerBoats #LuckyCharms #Angels

Local guide Zach St. Amand with a stunner of a male brown trout. New river report is up, click the website link on our Bio page. Well, the good news is despite the fact that we got over 2.5” of rain in New Hartford, the river should be in nice shape this weekend. In the low 600 CFS range for total flow & dropping this morning, Riverton’s only about 275 CFS above the Still River. Great streamer fishing conditions for today, Friday, and then we should be down in the 400s for Saturday and I would guess into the 300s for Sunday. We will once again be doing an outside tag sale with some great deals and even some free stuff. We’ve acquired some very inexpensive fly rods & reels also. Along with an assortment of used fly tying vises. Make sure you stop by this weekend if you can. -Torrey. #needhami #trico #caddis #attenuata #dorothea #isonychia #lightcahill #mayfly #streamerfishing #junkflies #farmingtonriver #upcountrysportfishing #browntrout #rainbowtrout #brooktrout #nymphing #euronymphing #dryfly #wetfly #softhackle #nymph #wildtrout #bigtrout #flyfishing #troutfishing #trout #keepemwet #catchandreleasefishing

Customer and friend John Antolini with a big fat Farmington River brown trout from this past weekend. New River Report is up, click the website link on our Bio page. Last Friday’s flow cut, combined with cooler cloudy weather over the weekend led to good fishing for quite a few of our customers. Barring anything crazy from Mother Nature, water levels should stay similar to what you’re seeing now for a while. These are good fishing conditions, with a total flow in the low/mid 400cfs range, and Riverton in the mid 300s. Look for water temps to range anywhere from low 50s to low/mid 60s, depending on location, time of day, and weather. Smaller #18 Dorothea Sulfurs are beginning to join the slightly bigger #16 Invaria Sulfurs. Not a lot of Dorothea yet, but they are mixing in. We’re also starting to see a few of the big Isonychia hatching downstream, I’d say from Canton downriver into Collinsville & Unionville. This is a late afternoon to evening fast water bug averaging about a #10, but can be bigger or smaller. They start downstream and work their way upstream, July is normally the peak month for them in the Permanent TMA/C&R. Make sure to read the River Report for information about other bugs and fishing advice. This looks like a really good week to be out there on the water. With warmer/hotter weather moving in starting Wednesday, make sure you don’t leave too early as that will likely push insect activity to both earlier and later in the day. -Torrey. #sulfur #caddis #invaria #dorothea #isonychia #marchbrown #lightcahill #mayfly #streamerfishing #farmingtonriver #upcountrysportfishing #browntrout #rainbowtrout #brooktrout #nymphing #euronymphing #dryfly #wetfly #softhackle #nymph #wildtrout #bigtrout #flyfishing #troutfishing #trout #keepemwet #catchandreleasefishing
