Lateral deceleration & change of direction 🏑💪

Here are some examples of what we’ve been working on to progressively load her leg during lateral deceleration and change of direction, improve single-leg control, and build the strength and confidence needed to cut and react on the field. So proud of her progress and all the work she’s put in!

Can’t wait to see her back out there doing what she loves. 👏

🦵 Knee extension matters. A LOT.

After a knee injury or surgery, one of our biggest priorities is restoring full passive knee extension — and then teaching you to actively control that range.

Why?

➡️ Passive ROM tells us what motion is available.
➡️ Active ROM tells us whether your muscles can actually control and use that motion.

Getting the knee fully straight is important for:
✅ Normal walking mechanics
✅ Reducing compensations
✅ Restoring quadriceps function
✅ Improving strength development
✅ Returning to running, jumping & sport

Simply being able to get your knee straight isn’t always enough. We want you to own that position.

Restore the range → activate the muscles → control the range → build strength.

That’s how we turn ROM into function. 💪#physicaltherapy #sportsmedicine #acl #kneesurgery

Week in the life of a coach!!

My schedule looks a little different everyday, but the goal remains the same. Be the coach I had when I was younger.

Hoping from field to field, gym to gym, wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

A good week of work. Lots of coaching to begin wrapping up the summer but no where else I would rather be then spending it with the best people.

Lots of time at the field, side quests, coffees made, and car phone calls. Wouldn’t trade it for the world. Thankful for this life and the people it has brought me.

Another week to be grateful. Thankful to spend time around my favorite people when I need it most.

I love the early mornings, physical therapy, rainy days, laughs and side quests with them. Couldn’t ask for better friends🥹

Last slide is a jumpscare…. But it’s real… moments after I found out I needed surgery again.

REBUILD BRICK BY BRICK 🧱

Building the breaks so we can explode! Reps on reps on reps. Feels fantastic when I can semi move like an athlete. Truthfully only thing that’s been on my mind is the field. Putting in the work to get there. Knowing I have a long way to go but I am not satisfied yet.

I never say it enough but @shaygallagher.pt has been nothing short of amazing. My good days, my bad days and the reality checks I need. She’s been the most crucial factor in my comeback. There’s nothing I look forward to more than my sessions with her.

Shoutout to my hater @jcormier.dpt for his honest opinion on my broad jumps.

Rebuilding. Brick by Brick.

This athlete is working back from a proximal hamstring strain. These are so fun to rehab in my opinion!

The thought process for his plan has been to expose the hamstring to its “tolerable” level of load (tolerable meaning about 3-4/10 a pain scale)

Pretty soon after we had him doing sprint drills and some lower effort & short duration sprints, with the goal to build volume and capacity then intensity and distance.

Along side that, we focused a lot on his hamstring length, length under load, length with velocity, hamstring strength and other factors like trunk capacity, lateral hip strength and his opposite hip’s hip flexor/quad flexibility.

Can’t wait to see him get back to soccer and track!

Would love to hear how others treat these injuries and resources they have!

Here is a little snippet of some exercises I’ve been using with a patient in the early post operative phase of his rehab to get his quad firing again.

Getting a strong quad contraction after a quad graft can be extra tricky, so finding the right exercises and level of intensity is crucial. Overall, I have found that frequency of exercise is king! (As well as NMES and interventions to reduce AMI)

Goal right now is to get his extension range back as fast as possible, manage swelling, patellar mobility and get that quad muscle firing!

Quick note in this is the tall sitting straight leg raise. I found it to be an awesome bridge to a normal supine straight leg raise when they still have a lag present. Try it out!

Gotta say, I love this job. Love helping people. Love learning and love nerding out!

Let me@know what you guys think!

These last 6 months weren’t pretty. They were painful. frustrating. humbling.

There were setbacks. There were days I questioned if it was even worth it. Days I moved backwards.

But I never stopped showing up.

This process built something in me I didn’t know I had real discipline. Real mental strength.

These 6 months changed me.
Now it’s time to see what the next 6 can do.

I wouldn’t have made it through these last 6 months if it wasn’t for @shaygallagher.pt by my side. She’s been nothing short of amazing. Helping me both physically and mentally.

@kanefootwear keeping me going through recovery!!
