What does the fishing industry have to do with true, holistic health? On the latest episode of A Regenerative Life, filmmaker Kip Andersen, known for documentaries like Cowspiracy and Seaspiracy, shares with Dr. Scott Stoll some of the findings from his work on the oceans that still stay with him.

In this clip, Kip points to the human cost of fishing: about 350,000 lives lost in the fishing industry over the last 15 years, and those are only the deaths that were reported. He also discusses slave labor on fishing boats, which he describes as among the worst cases of human abuse he has encountered.

Then there's the climate impact. Kip notes that 93 percent of the world's carbon is stored in the ocean, which is why he sees the industry's reach extending well beyond what ends up on our plates.

In this clip, Kip describes visiting a dairy farm where calves were kept in crates within earshot of their mothers, whose distress at hearing their cries kept them lactating. He reflects on what that means for the people drinking it: milk from a depressed mother, meant for her own baby. As he puts it, there is a lot of sadness in that milk, and he sees its impact reaching across health, animal welfare, and even a spiritual level.

Lasagna lasagna lasagna. We make it every year for just a couple months, but this year we've redesigned our most popular winter dish and made it 10 times better.
From our scratch whipped ricotta & mozzarella to our ground sausage and pepperoni and our Chianti Bolognese with our delicious marinara and chopped herbs,all layered between sheets of House made pasta.

We kicked the month off with this and tomorrow will drop the notorious Thanksgiving Sando,Sunday we get the meatloaf platter and Monday we drop the Thanksgiving pre-order menu. I'm also dropping a pair chai fig cake in about an hour or two. Come on down and visit we'd love to see your face.

Documentary filmmaker Kip Andersen explains the reality behind the dairy and meat industries, from animals being killed incredibly young to dairy cows repeatedly giving birth and having their calves taken away shortly afterward.

While filming Cowspiracy, Kip visited an organic dairy farm and describes standing among more than a hundred mother cows separated from their babies as one of the saddest experiences of his life.

His argument goes beyond food. When we stop seeing animals as products and start looking them in the eyes, does our relationship with them, and our own consciousness, change?

Most of you know I'm a passionate vegan, but don't know the story behind WHY I became vegan.

I gave up eating animal flesh when I was 24. Since I was a little girl, I've always been drawn to and loved animals SO much. I felt then, and still do, that if you truly love animals, you don't eat, wear or buy products that experiment/test on them.

My journey to becoming a vegan in 2013 is something I rarely speak about publicly, but I'm inspired to share my story, in hopes that others who may be facing a cancer diagnosis or like me, are in their 60's and experiencing physical changes & challenges that make you feel much differently than your 40's & 50's...

In 2012, I was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive adrenal cortical carcinoma tumor & based on the size (a cantaloupe) it was deemed Stage 4 Adrenal Cancer & I was told I had a 15% chance of surviving. I underwent a 5 1/2 hr surgery to remove my left adrenal gland & the massive tumor that encapsulated my entire abdomen; they kept me in the hospital for 10 days because it was such a rough recovery (forever grateful to my hubby @allencarrasco8 bff's @marycjeli @nataliebean & big sis Linda who all took shifts to make sure I was never left alone in that room.)

I underwent 2 years of grueling chemotherapy. I still owned my professional children's Dance Studio at the time and continued working, but basically lived on our couch & bed when I wasn't at the studio.

During those 2 years, I read a lot. After reading the book @thechinastudy by Dr. T Colin Campbell (who I was lucky enough to meet several years ago) I went plant based overnight.

I've been cancer free now for 14 years. 🚨I also just learned that I AM THE ONLY SURVIVOR of the 26 adrenal patients who were treated at UCSD Moore's Cancer Hospital.🚨Only 1 in 2 million people get adrenal cancer & sadly, most don't survive.

I KNOW WHY I SURVIVED! Vegan for the animals, vegan for the planet & vegan for health. It's the healthiest, most sustainable & compassionate diet & lifestyle 🌱
