This week's nyf is a restoration project of mine. It's a 12 inch slicing/butchery of unknown make.

This piece when I got it had some rust and a loose handle but I just knew it could be something special. I tried to leave as much of the original condition as I could because it definitely had earned its battle scars, and I found them beautiful.

When I was thinking about what to do about the loose handle I saw a story from @kiranskoa where he was showcasing a block of his apocalypse dyed box elder burl and I knew that was what I wanted for this handle.

If you are not familiar he has some absolutely amazing handle materials, you should definitely take a look.

I decided to keep the color scheme darker on the handle so I went with black micarta pins. After finishing the handle I put the final sharpening on the edge and boy did it take a nice edge.

It is absolutely a great slicer, especially for larger cuts of meat. However, what shocked me is how well it handled general prep, blade.was thin enough to avoid wedging. This sure is a fun one, and was a really enjoyable restoration project.

I opened up a story to get inspiration on the meal to make for this post, and I look forward to sharing the result with you.

Thanks also to Kiran, because without this amazing handle material it just wouldn't have turned out as well.
