I’m not bad. I’m just drawn this way 💃🏾✨ Of course had the best time hosting Smoke’N Mic Night’s Fright Night (@smokenmicnight ) at Spinners (@spinnersatx). I don’t get a lot of opportunities to be in community as much as I used to because I be working but this was a treat. I miss all my poet peers. 💗✨

On July 20th, every.Word celebrated our 2 year anniversary of the launch of our flagship open mic. Although we started the work much earlier than 2 years ago, we feel the open mic transformed the trajectory of our work. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has been a part of our community. To those who stay, those moved away, those who grew from first timers to veterans, those who send their love remotely—please know we are always thinking of you and will always welcome you home. Special thank you to committee members, donors, sponsors, volunteers, partners, contracted artists, media, vendors, and community members who give us reasons to continue this work. Cheers to 2 years down! 🖤✨

Did y’all hear about the underground slam at the BlackBerry Peach National Poetry Slam (@bbppoetryslam)? Teresa Johnson might have. We heard Skyelyn Riggs-Davis (@skyelynriggsdavis) took the win! 🧐🖤✨

BlackBerry Peach wasn’t just a poetry festival. It was a reminder of what’s possible when you surround yourself with people who are relentlessly committed to the craft.

I left inspired by the poems, the conversations in the hallways, the late-night laughs, the workshops, and the generosity of so many incredible artists. I got to compete, perform work I’m proud of, interview poets I deeply respect, help document the festival with Every Word, and be around people whose work I’ve admired for years.

Congratulations to all of the winners and everyone who stepped onto a stage this week. Thank you for trusting us with your stories.

This week also reminded me that poetry isn’t a race. It’s a lifetime practice. I’m heading back to Austin with new ideas, new friendships, new questions, and an even deeper love for this art form.

Congratulations to everyone who made BlackBerry Peach what it was. Until next time.

There’s something deeply restorative about returning home to Detroit. Born and raised here, educated in Detroit Public Schools, and shaped by a city defined by resilience, strength, and soul. Detroit instilled in me discipline, grit, and compassion—qualities that continue to guide me in medicine and in life. ✨

every.Word is still on a high from an incredible week that ended with a celebratory afterparty with sounds by Dj Jo (@itsdjjo) in the Butterfly Bar (@butterfly_bar_atx). Our Juneteenth Open Mic, FREE VERSE, was overly sold out with only Black voices on the mic with an incredible performance by our host, guide, and legend in the making Tender René (@millieux) at The VORTEX (@vortex_rep). Thank you all for joining us, and we wish everyone a happy Juneteenth! Celebrate safely and have fun! 🖤✨

So….. I didn’t grow up as an athlete… nor would I really even consider myself one now. But I won’t deny that these past few years I have been thrilled and excited about my fitness journey 💪🏽💫

No overly complicated process, I’ve just learned how to move my body consistently and with respect. Then everything else began to fall into place. Sharing some of my tips, best practices, and eating habits, in hopes it help someone else learn to do the same 🩶 Love yall!
