🚨Deadline EXTENDED until JANUARY 30🚨

This year’s theme will once again be “Barkin’ Around Saugerties” We have chosen “Barkin’ Around Saugerties” to continue awareness and support of the building of the new, and much needed, Town of Saugerties Animal Shelter. There will be 35 artist painted sitting dog sculptures displayed along the streets of our town & village from May through mid-October. There will be both a live and online auction with the proceeds distributed to the artists, the Chamber (to be used for supporting community needs and events), the Town of Saugerties Animal Shelter and a scholarship for a graduating Saugerties High School student.

The annual Street Art Event always brings visitors to Saugerties and is a cultural and economic boon to our community. In order for this event to be successful, we need sponsors. Many of our local businesses have supported this event in the past, and we hope they will continue to do so. We welcome and appreciate any new sponsors. Sponsorships may be shared amongst multiple businesses.

This event cannot happen without community support!

TONIGHT!! MONDAY OCTOBER 27, 2025. 6-8pm🌷🌻🌹🌸🌻🌷😁. Rizzoli Bookstore is on Broadway, near 26th Street. I can’t wait to see and hold this beautiful book. The author and artist, Abbie Zabar, had special early morning access inside the Metropolitan Museum Of Art over several years and she sketched the beautiful, gorgeous, magnificent, huge bouquets of flowers and that’s what this book is …her sketches in color.

SPOTLIGHT ON THE DOGS OF SAUGERTIES: IN THE ARTIST’S OWN WORDS

Introducing “Luna Laika” by artists Michael and Kirsten Doyle.

“The inspiration behind our Saugerties Animal Shelter Dog figure is taken directly from the life story of Laika, the space dog. Laika was a historical figure, a beautiful stray mongrel, chosen to be one of the first animals to orbit the earth for the knowledge of science and space flight.

She is to us a martyr and symbol not to be forgotten.

We very much appreciate the Saugerties Animal Shelter for their diligent loving care and service for all animals.”

“Out of this world” describes many of the dogs that are part of this sidewalk art display. When it comes to “Luna Laika,” not only did she literally travel in space around the earth, but the artists did a fantastic job paying her homage. You can see this space pioneer, sponsored by Archtop Fiber, in front of the Reformed Church at 173 Main Street. Although you can bid online today for any of the dogs by going to discoversaugerties.com, we hope you buy a ticket to the live auction on September 14 at SPAF. Tickets are only $35 in advance or $40 at the door and are available online (link in bio) at Smith Hardware and Town and Country Liquors.

Today is Tuesday August 5, 2025- SCIENCE SECTION in The New York Times (every Tuesday). I am not posting the entire article written by CARL ZIMMER, so PLEASE READ THE FULL ARTICLE AT @nytimes This is something so very important and it concerns EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US. TRUTH MATTERS. TRUTH IN SCIENCE CAN SAVE LIVES. TRUTH IN SCIENCE MATTERS. If you want to try to do something call your local Congress Person and tell them of your concern about TRUTH IN SCIENCE and mention the NY TIMES ARTICLE. PLEASE NOTE-I have used my Apple Intelligence, also referred to as “AI” to SUMMARIZE The NY Times Article, since a lot of people may not take the time, or HAVE the time to read the entire article, or swipe through a lot of screen shots. FULL DISCLOSURE. And, yes, I see the irony, but in this post, AI was used for good, not to fool someone, not to make money from it, not to commit fraud. ⛑️⛑️⛑️🔬🔬🔬. #truthmatters #truthinscience #truth💯
