Can you believe? Breathable shirt technology has been around for more than 50 years!
👇

Ahead of the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, England manager Alf Ramsey knew that traditional long-sleeved cotton shirts wouldn't survive the scorching heat and altitude. The solution? Experimenting with Umbro's lightweight, ventilated material known as Airtex—originally used for military shirts and jackets in the Middle East and Far East during World War II.

🇮🇹 The Italian connection: Umbro actually developed these lightweight shirts following a request from the Italian federation in 1966 for hot weather, though the Italians never ended up using them. 🧐

👕 The debut: The style was first worn by Manchester United in 1967, and later by England against Spain in Madrid for the European Championship quarter-final.

💬 Which classic Umbro Airtex kit is your absolute favorite?
England or West Germany 1970? Scotland or Australia 1974?
