soaking up the beauty and subversion in these wild times™️ for me, beauty and subversion/rebellion are nearly always the same thing…if something is subversive, it’s beautiful. if something is beautiful (to me), it’s somehow breaking a rule. every time. finding beauty, joy, DEVOTION in the subversive, the overthrowing of systems that destroy connection, hope (action!), and vision, is essential! attune your senses! make sensation not sense! fondle a plant! hone your observational blade! cut through the veils of distraction and reclaim the most precious, rarest form of your generosity — your attention! make beauty subversive again. make your attention subversive again. turn this world upside down (or right side up lol). tagged all the slides i knew, if i missed any you know, please comment and i’ll add. 💜

#loveisthedrug⁣ ⁣ I’m often amazed at the ways we are invited to love.⁣ ⁣ Through the infinite iterations of relationships, where small acts of loving kindness that stop us in our tracks are equal in measure to the grand gestures that pivot us entirely in new directions. Loving and being loved can validate who we’ve always been and change us completely into the people we were destined to become.⁣ ⁣ Whilst some would argue that the most powerful tool is power itself, I would disagree.⁣ Love, in any form, in its most authentic state, transcends (by miles) any other brand of force.⁣ ⁣ Why?⁣ ⁣ Because love isn’t man made. It isn’t the result of thought or plan. Nor is it a noun or destination.⁣ ⁣ Love is in flow. It is a verb. It is timeless.⁣ It is, as they say, the journey.⁣ Love is, at its core, divine.⁣ ⁣ And though it is born of spiritual DNA, we humans are fortunate enough to experience it here on Earth. This past weekend, I got to witness love, in many a splendored state. Love as a practice of acceptance and accountability, of promise and possibility, of fate and faithfulness.⁣ ⁣ My dear friend Nikki and her beloved Richarde were witnessed in ceremony by those who love them. Not a wedding, per se. (They made it official last month.) But rather a ritual union, held on sacred family land in Barbados, that not only highlighted the incredibly intentional relationship they built (and continue to build) over the years, but it afforded all of us in attendance a glimpse of our interconnectedness just by loving them. Beyond connection, or even community, we are a constellation of light bodies, held together by a specific equation of gravity, that always was and always will be.⁣ ⁣ During the ceremony, the breeze swept through the glorious trees, and I could swear I heard a time or two, or three…⁣ Aham Prema. A Sanskrit mantra with a powerful meaning.⁣ “I am divine love.”⁣ ⁣ I came way from the weekend with a much needed reminder that, as shadowed as the world feels at times, love (in action) IS the answer.⁣ ⁣ As we navigate the road ahead, may we all lean in more heavily to loving and being loved.

We’ve never offered to host a political fundraiser before, but we did the other night (and it was a blast) because we’re lucky enough to have a fearlessly caring, inspiring candidate in Leila Namvar. Leila is an advocate for equality, prosperity and for the underrepresented - which includes our natural world and our Joshua trees, which we are fighting in all directions to preserve. If you are out in the desert, please look for Leila Namvar for State Assembly on your ballot!

A moment at Ground Zero I will never forget. Listen to my dear friend Kerri Kelly, who lost her stepfather Joe, a firefighter, in the Towers. She tells her story, and then I tell mine… Watch until the end for the power of shared grieving. ✨ On this 25th anniversary, we hold in our hearts the first responders, survivors, family and friends for whom this time of year brings back unspeakable grief. We see you, we love you, we are you. And we mourn all that has been done in your name.
