POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This summer season was a wonderful one – lots of work, lots of fun, and so many beautiful and lovely new people around me who accompanied me on my way here in Berlin. So thankful for everything this last year has brought me. In these past days my studio has been alive with visits… and I can’t wait to share some big news soon 🐦‍🔥

BACK TO THE ROOTS

So happy, to share with you that I will return to @udkberlin as a lecturer at the department of Fine Arts. I will support @klasseneugebauer during upcoming projects and exhibitions.

Save the date:

I WOULDN’T GET OUT OF BED FOR LESS THAN $10.000 A DAY
5. - 7. November 2024 - Foyer Hardenbergstraße 33, Universität der Künste Berlin

Thirty mattresses lined up next to each other, forming an impressive lying surface: Blockade, space of possibilities and temporary habitat.

From November 5th to 7th, 2024, students from the Neugebauer class invite you to a collective performance that radically reverses concepts such as intimacy and privacy and thus searches for a new form of interpersonal rapprochement. A conglomerate of over twenty different objects, which work on the motif and meaning of the bedside table, trace the diverse phenomena that occur in one’s own bed and reveal themselves to the viewer in the form of sound installations, sculptures and photographic productions.

A reading by Jan Peter Bremer and a sound performance by Somi Sniegocka provide additional impulses from outside and use the expansive sculpture made of foam and stage floor as a platform and resonance space.

#galleryweekend #galleryweekendberlin

Wade Through Until the Waters Blue, a solo exhibition of the Berlin-based, Chinese artist #kaifanwang @w_kaifan on view from April 26 to June 15, 2024.

OPENING: Friday, April 26 5-8 PM
GNYP Gallery Berlin @gnypgallery_
Knesebeckstr. 96, 10623 Berlin

While modernism was notorious for its disdain for tradition, Wang’s works, on the other hand, stablishes a very productive and generous relationship to history. In his case, his paintings reference to names like Zhao Ji (1082 – 1135), the eight emperor of Song Dynasty, famous for his paintings and calligraphy, done more than a thousand years ago. The same dimensions are there, as also the color palette and the narrative feeling pointing to a practice that, all in all, is more than a classic—it hovers closely to the notion of the eternal.

Moreover, at the end of the spectrum, one finds echoes of the European Renaissance, a presence sensible through the specific colors Wang uses. The limited chromatic array of choices can be found, say, in a fresco (think of the castoff colors on a church wall) or in the fluid indistinction between background and foreground. In other words, one pigment invades and interacts with the other, creating a constant motion highlighted by the broken circles, traces, and outlines essayed by the artist. What is behind these influences, in any case, is the approximation of the Orient and Occident through a recognition of their mutual and dynamic pollination. Beyond looting or violent conquest debates, it suggests how ideas were integrated, changed, and further distributed.
