“That’s about the same chance as winning the lottery.” That’s what the fire brigade told us after lightning hit our house a few years ago. And somehow, looking back, I think I did win the lottery.

First things first, nobody was hurt. And despite the damage and the discomfort of living on a building site for almost eight months, something unexpected was
“ignited” there.

I lived alongside contractors every day, asked questions, made coffees, watched them work, listened to their music, took their advice and made decisions. Most of all, I learned loads on the job. And I started designing. This small ensuite was my first interior design project.

The starting point was the magnolia outside the window. It had been part of that room and its story for years, holding memories important to me. And after everything that had happened, there it still was: beautiful, delicate and incredibly resilient.
Magnolia became the thread running through this bedroom and en suite, not simply a colour inspiration. Its soft pinks and whites shaped the palette and materials, while I focused on making this small em suite space work better. The bathroom didn’t get any bigger. But sliding doors improved the flow, an irregularly shaped vanity made access to the shower easier, a recessed niche gave everyday things their place, and I reconsidered the tiling, from the mosaic to its layout and detailing.

I was my first client. And apparently not an easy one (ask my husband for references 😉).

Enough to go back to education, first at UAL and then KLC, where I qualified as an Interior Designer.
Today I’m a BIID Associate and I’m building Stories of Interiors, bringing almost 20 years of corporate experience and business skills, alongside almost 15 years of expat life and learning how to make a new place feel like home.
And this is rooted much further back, in my teenage years. But that’s another story.
This chapter, though, started in a small bathroom. In the middle of a transition. After a quite scary and shocking event. With a magnolia still standing outside the window.
To be continued...

I’m incredibly proud to share that my final university project has won the Mental Health BA category at the Architects for Health Student Design Awards 2026!

My project reimagined a listed property in Shoreditch as a community hub for the mental health service - Self Space , creating a welcoming environment that combines therapy, art and social connection. The design explored how thoughtful interiors can support mental wellbeing by creating spaces that encourage expression, comfort and personal growth.

The awards received 132 student nominations from their tutors across 15 universities in the UK and internationally. To have my project recognised as the winner in the Mental Health category is something I’m incredibly grateful for.

A huge thank you to Architects For Health (AfH), the judges, and @klcschool @klcbainteriordesign for this recognition. It’s incredibly rewarding to see a project that I’m so passionate about receive this award.

Barely survived the stress of my various renovation projects from late 2022 onwards 😳 and all the concurrent life sh*t. Learned a great deal of life lessons, big and small, the hard way

Unsurprisingly my newly renovated kitchen looked so much tidier when first completed in late 2024 - it wasn’t actually being used yet 🤪.

It hasn’t been a walk in the park but somehow I managed to find the right contractor for this endeavour @kitchensbypetergill. Cliff had the patience of a saint in accommodating all my design changes and and my slow pace in taking almost a year to finalise the design as well as in handling all the nitty gritty 👍🏻 seamlessly! Would’ve been a lot more difficult otherwise

I opted for a one-person breakfast bar to maximise storage space - and made sure the colour scheme and choice of materials would feel relaxingly and timelessly botanical as well as being practical to maintain

So proud of my very first kitchen design ❤️ despite a few design flaws and I’m finally starting to come back to life now 2 years after this major renovation

My expensive school fees at @klcschool has definitely paid off, in a manner 😂

A worthwhile lifetime investment!

Side note: I definitely don’t want anything to do with residential renovations and by extension, residential landscaping career wise after this whole learning experience. My talent is mostly in art and design but this is actually less than 1% of the actual renovation efforts! Unless of course i could delegate the 99%+ leg work to the right people and simply focus on what I’m good at 😀❤️. Dad even suggested I sell crystals because he knows that this is something that sells and potentially manageable for me 🤔.

Oh btw the giant white quartz sink isn’t a practical choice…it’s just expensive looking for about 300 dollars and makes my small kitchen look larger (and more expensive)….it stains easily and I’ve never bothered to properly remove them other than just trying to keep it clean 🤨. Next time I’ll go for a rose gold stainless steel sink but matching the taps could be somewhat tricky

A day in the life of…

I had a jam packed day at Nefarious HQ from general admin tasks like creating delivery schedules and getting the post. To being on a careers panel @klcschool talking all things interior design careers and portfolios.

Whilst in-between working in pubs on technical drawing packs and ending on being on of the @countryandtownhouse “50 Finest Interior Designers 2026” is actually insane!

It was a jam packed day but a good one!!!
