Thank to everyone so much who came along to our solstice fundraiser tonight, and also to all those who couldn't make it but donated anyway 🥹🙏

It felt like a really special and important way to mark the solstice - channelling the strong energy of the sun into our hearts to charge up healing & peace.

Thank you to Kirsty who lead a beautiful sound bath (her first outside) ✨

I have not done the final tally yet, but I think we must be close to having raised £1000 which is just phenomenal for something we pulled together at such short notice and that the community supported so wholeheartedly ❤️ (if anyone feels called, there is still time to donate - link in stories).

8 months ago I did not know the colours of the Palestinian flag, let alone own one. I did not know what a keffiyeh was, let alone wear one. 8 months ago I had never heard the word Nakba, and I did not understand anything about the occupation of Palestine, the oppression, the apartheid. And now the genocide.

And just the other day, I realised I have been there. To the occupied West Bank, to Palestine. I went to Bethlehem and Jerusalem on a trip from a family holiday in Cyprus as a 15 year old. I remember the soldiers with machine guns. I remember feeling frightened. But I knew nothing about why it was so. Until 8 months ago, I knew nothing.

This evening I led a session dedicated to the people of that land. We sent out love and our blessings in the hope that it might reach them, in solitary, in humanity, in one-ness.

I don't know if I say the right things, but I speak anyway. Only from my heart. As a human being. Knowing that we are all connected.

Our practice is to keep our hearts open in the face of unthinkable suffering. And do what we can, in any small way, with what courage we can find ❤️

The last photos are of a card I pulled in class this morning with Jo @the_blissness - it could not have been more appropriate 🪐

Solstice blessings to all ✨☀️✨

Last weekend the SCCU crew and an amazing team of volunteers returned to Skye.

🌊 This was a familiar stretch of coastline for us, a place we visited 3 times last year (including on our 24 hour beach clean) and have already removed over 6 tonnes of plastic pollution from.

🚤 This time we extended our beach cleaning to another beach a bit further along the coast. This isn't the most accessible stretch of coastline and most visitors to it will be either sheep, cattle, wildlife and the odd human arriving by foot or boat or kayak.

🐟 Unfortunately, we found many years worth of rubbish that has washed up and a large percentage was fishing industry related. On a slightly more positive note, much of what we removed looked like older items. We hope to more easily monitor fresh washed in rubbish once these beaches have been cleaned.

🦭 We still have a long way to go to make this stretch of coastline free from marine litter, but already we have helped to remove a staggering amount of rubbish that would otherwise be having a negative impact on wildlife and would also be continuously breaking down into microplastics.

🚣‍♀️ Thanks to @sustainably.spectrum for organising a mini #paddleout in support of the @surfersagainstsewage protest that was happening that weekend.

👍 We want to say a massive thanks to @skye_beach_cleans for all of the amazing work they do across Skye and for their continued support and advice on our visits.

🦦 Big shout out to Ben and the boys from Team otter for helping out and we look forward to working together again soon.

😁 Thank you for all of the incredible support from members of the local community who joined us, including a team of kayakers!

Weekends like this would not be possible without all of the amazing folk, who gave up their free time to come along to beach clean.
The days are long, tiring, dirty and often quite overwhelming and we want to say a big shout-out to all of the beach cleaners out there! 💙🌊
