throw yourself a birthday party.

yes, I had everyone RSVP with a school pic of them.
yes, I printed them out and hung them in my hallway.
yes, I set up a picture day so they could hang up the new photo next to their littles.
yes, they wrote letters to their younger selves.
yes, we had a time.
yes, I felt the love — so, so, SO much love.

special shout out to @gyyoso for co-hosting, helping me decorate, crushing it as the photographer, pouring an exorbitant amount of shots, and being the best irish twin in the world. and to @hahelenha + my fam for making my weekend extra special. and to @laurenbrooksonline for my gorgy cake. and to everyone who showed up… ugh, I just love y’all!!!

An #OhioState recruitment specialist publicly resigns at an event for admitted multicultural students and their families.
.
Kieran Duhl said they can no longer recruit students to a university that is actively shutting down diversity programs and complying in advance with #Ohio SB 1.
.
"If you know me, you know how much I love working with students. Taking over PASS Scholars — the program that provided me with so many long term friendships and mentors during my undergrad experience — has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life. That being said, I do not make this choice lightly.
.
"My role in recruitment requires me to convince admitted students to pay their acceptance fees and commit to OSU for the Fall semester. While I am still dedicated to the students who are at the university and depend on it for their livelihoods, I cannot in good faith recruit students when we do not know what we’ll be able to offer them. When the university administration cannot be trusted. When all we know is that 'rapid change' is expected, and that we have to 'follow the law' ... We don’t even know what 'doing our best' will look like."
— @kmaija1998 's post on Instagram

We gather in community, centering healing justice, to reflect on the weight of loss and the unyielding spirit of resistance. Through shared stories, Islamic healing practices, and collective mourning, we hold space for both our pain and our commitment to organizing towards justice. In this space, we remind ourselves that to heal is to organize, and to organize is to heal.

We will begin with history and political context from rand @officialjakegyllenhalal, highlighting the intrinsic connection between queer liberation and Palestinian liberation.

Participants will then be guided through 2 30-minute healing breakout sessions, led by healing practicers Sham-E-Ali Nayeem @sham_e_ali_nayeem, Kieran Duhl @kmaija1998, and Rubyna Ali @rruubbyynnaa.

Register @ bit.ly/oneyear-resistance #linkinbio

✨UPDATE: we will have 3 healing spaces instead of 4, led by Sham-E-Ali, Kieran, and Rubyna✨

Working within and against an institution at the same time can be complicated, or even crazy. It can cause a crisis of self perception, feelings of hopelessness, conflict within the movement, mental health calamities, and rage. How do we engage with these feelings to aid in the process of healing, and to push us to continue the difficult and necessary work of creating a new world?

Join Sarah Hegazi Fellow @kmaija1998 to explore these questions, and reflect on each of the 4 types of madness outlined in How to Go Mad Without Losing Your Mind by La Marr Jurelle Bruce. These will be the final offerings in the series and will give participants a chance to contemplate different modalities of madness and how they relate to organizing, healing, and liberation.

This series is aimed at student organizers for Palestinian liberation and other healers/activists who resonate with experiencing madness.
