Hi BBGs! I hope everyone is having an incredible summer! I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my experience on ILSI this summer, because it gave me a much deeper understanding of Israel, its history, and the many different perspectives that shape the country today.

Travelling alongside roughly 80 teens from across the globe, we had the opportunity to hear from Jews, Bedouins, Baháʼís, Arabs, Druze, LGBTQ+ Israelis, and Nova festival survivors, each with their own relationship to Israel and their own perspective on the situation in the Middle East. More than anything, it was the personal stories that stayed with me. Hearing people speak about their own experiences, memories, and identities made everything we were learning feel much more real than simply reading about it in an Instagram post or news report. These conversations pushed me to think beyond the narratives I was already familiar with and reminded me that there is rarely one story that can fully explain a place as complex as Israel.

Throughout the trip, we visited Yad Vashem, Har Herzl, the Nova festival site, and Tel Saki, where the Yom Kippur War began. Being physically present in these places, while also hearing directly from people whose lives have been shaped by the events we were learning about, gave the experience a depth I don’t think I could have found anywhere else. ILSI forced me to ask the difficult questions, listen with an open mind, and recognize the importance of understanding experiences that may be very different from my own.

If you’re thinking about your plans for next summer, I really can’t recommend a BBYO summer program enough. Whether it be ILSI, ILTC, CLTC, or even passport, they are all incredible.

If you have any questions at all about BBYO summer programs, please feel free to DM me! I’d love to talk about it and help in any way I can! 🤗🤗🤗

SHALOM NSR !!!🩵🌞🌄

This is Madi reporting back from the BEST 3 weeks in Israel for ILSI!!!🇮🇱For the first time since the Summer of 2023, BBYO was finally able to return home to Israel, and I am so lucky to have been apart of it. I reunited with friends from Perlman⛺️, met new friends from around the globe🌎, and explored the Holy land🕍. From the Kinneret, to Haifa, to Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem, this was truly the trip of a lifetime.

Cannot wait to see you all at Kickoff, NSR🦈
