It’s not a stretch to say the Department of Kinesiology is among the nation’s best. In fact, the new 2026 rankings - out this week - from the National Academy of Kinesiology have awarded its doctoral program the No. 10 ranking in the nation.

The new ranking represents a significant leap: The department was No. 22 in the last rankings, conducted in 2023.

“We are incredibly proud of this recognition, which reflects the relentless dedication of our faculty, staff and students,” said KNES Chair and Prof. Michael Brown.

Gymkana’s FIRST EVER Bring a Friend to Practice Day is planned for this Wednesday, October 7, from 6:30-8pm!!! 🔥🎉

Troupers, bring AT LEAST one other UMD student with you to practice! It could be your friend, sibling, TA, classmate, roommate, or a random person you meet on the street. Let’s pack the gym!!

And fellow Terps, don’t worry—you are still welcome to come even if you don’t already know someone on the team! If you aren’t available on this night, just stop by a practice any other day of the week to experience practicing with the Gymkana Troupe.

(The “bring your friends” portion of the practice ends at 8pm, but friends are welcome to stay in the gym until team practice officially lets out at 9:30!)
