POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Kaden Neuman is currently at Catawba College and is looking to put himself in position for a breakout season next year.

A big focus for us this summer has been tightening up the command of his slider and changeup, while giving him simple cues he can actually take into a competitive setting.

With the slider, the biggest adjustment has been creating more consistent focal points. Where does he need to start it? Where does he want it to finish? For Kaden, finding the cue “rip it” helped him trust the pitch, get out front, and stop trying to over-guide it.
Direction was also a big piece. A common slider/sweeper mistake is feeling like the body is working toward the right-handed batter’s box (for RHP’s), then trying to rip across the body to force the pitch back to glove side. Once we cleaned up his direction, the pitch became much more consistent.

The changeup has also made a big jump. It has always been a decent pitch for him, but the command was inconsistent and at times it would be too verty. After a pitch design bullpen with one of our coaches @cmthrows , Kaden realized he was thinking of the pitch too much as a big horizontal mover instead of a pitch that creates depth. A few cueing adjustments and a grip change, specifically getting the index finger lower on the ball, have helped it become a much more consistent weapon and changing his IVB from 9 to 1.
Now we are transitioning into command bullpens and live ABs to wrap up the summer.

Current pitch mix:

4SFB: 89 to 93, T94
15 IVB, 14 HB

Sinker: 87 to 92
8.8 IVB, 17 HB

Slider: 78 to 82
-0.9 IVB, -14 HB

CH: 79 to 83
1.7 IVB, 20 HB
