Quick Pick:

Souvenir - knitting
@knitting_band

Written by Em Moore
@eemmoore

knitting’s sophomore album Souvenir finds the Montreal-based trio kicking out some of their most impactful, and existential, songs to date. The band blends together elements from indie rock, grungegaze, and garage pop to create a sound uniquely their own that captures the emotional depth of the lyrics perfectly, whether they are talking about mental health, identity, or reflecting on growth. While serving as a snapshot in time, Souvenir is also timeless; the emotions that knitting expresses never failing to strike a chord.

knitting is the guitar-driven indie rock band of Mischa Dempsey, Sarah Harris, and Andy Mulcair. Emerging from Montreal’s DIY scene, filtering lyrical introspection through a warping, slacker-rock lens. With their 2024 debut album Some Kind of Heaven (Mint Records), knitting introduced their wiry and careening blend of indie rock evoking the nostalgia of 90s alternative rock bands, earning the band comparisons ranging from DIIV to Hole to Alex G. The release resonated widely, spending five weeks at #1 on the Canadian campus radio charts, garnering press from Pitchfork, The FADER and Stereogum (Bands To Watch, Best New Artists 2024), and taking knitting to festivals like SXSW, and tours across Canada, the US, UK and Europe.

Between performances, knitting wrote, recorded, and produced their sophomore album, Souvenir. Released June 2026 via Mint Records, Souvenir is an introspective and at-times deeply existential album that considers what we take with us in life. Each song is like opening a locket and looking onto a specific memory, a world of feeling held in a few moments.

𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼:
