The Hartlepool Monkey by Wilfrid Lupano and Jérémie Moreau

Based on the real-world legend of the Hartlepool Monkey, the story sees a French warship taken under by stormy seas, just off the British coast. When searching through the shipwreck, local villagers discover the ships monkey and mistake him for a Frenchman (having never seen either a Frenchman or a monkey before).

What ensues is hilarious to begin with, but slowly heads towards tragedy, as the villagers prove to be more bestial than the Monkey.

I picked this up purely because I saw it reduced down to £4, and I'm really glad I did! It was an unexpectedly brilliant read, with incredible artwork to go with it.

If you can't stand seeing animals mistreated, then this probably isn't for you, but otherwise I'd recommend giving it a go, especially if you like folk tales and urban legends.

Kicking off a year of celebrations for our 40th anniversary, we’re proud to present Silent Pictures by Kevin O’Neill! This luxurious slipcase contains two hardback volumes, Featreland and The Balaclava Kid, the last of Kevin’s comic work. O’Neill was one of our the most distinctive and talented artists in comics, whose presence in the community is still deeply missed.

In Silent Pictures, without words, O’Neill conjures an astonishing pair of feverish stories, brimming with detail on every page, packed with some of the most exciting, twisted artwork ever put to paper. Gorgeously painted in luminous colour, no fan of his work can afford to miss out.

We’ve partnered with publisher Knockabout Comics (@knockaboutcomix) to bring you a very limited run of Silent Pictures. And it’s out today!!! This is exclusive to Knockabout and ourselves, the first announcement of many during 2026 to celebrate our 40th birthday. You can pick it up from our shelves right now or online by clicking the link in our bio.

Yes, this is an original page of FROM HELL by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell. Yes, it features Jack the Ripper. Yes, I got it for a song from a "slush pile" of pages at a convention about 20 years ago. Yes, I got it signed last year at @c2e2 right before the doors opened. Yes, I finally got it professionally framed (complete with museum glass) via professional support from the amazing @calandrastudio. Yes, now I need to find the right place to hang it...
